Camping, anyone?

Just about anywhere in the White Mountains is nice, a little harsh at times. Also up in Maine, Baxter State Park. We have the Adirondaks in N.Y. which are also very nice.

 

My favorite where I live is on our church's acreage. We have cleared some trees in the woods, and have made it into a primitive campsite. We have had already several campouts.

Here in northern Colorado, I like to hike back into Lorry state park. Head up to Arthur's Rock (About a 3 mile hike rising 1000 feet) and head for the waterfall (another 4 miles, fairly level). Anywhere behind the waterfall near the river is nice, uncrowded, good fishing. Tents only, deadwood fires only (no cutting, only what you can pick up. Plentiful anyway) Year round it's nice and empty. About now the fishing is no good, as the river is about 90% frozen and the fish are hiding in the deeps under the sheet ice. If you can get a worm or live bait in to them, they will bite. Just hard to do, as you don't want to saw a hole in ice that has running water under it. Trust me on that one. I had a very chilly night when I tried, the water rushes up out the hole due to the pressures of running under icepack.

 

Hi All,
I love to camp along the St. Lawrence River in NY. I have done Adirondack camping, but bugs, bear and rabid racoon scares kinda ruin that for me.
Camping along the river is so nice, great views of steam ships on the river, fishing is excellent, and always something to do!
Also know a great little diner for a great breakfast, which makes it all worth while for me!

I tried camping a few times. It wasn't my "cup of tea" I like to have a bed (my bed) and my cat curled up next to me.

 

We have camped in several states, and found that there is one thing the government can do weel.. That is manage camp grounds. Most private campgrounds are interested i nmaking a buck and the campers comfort or solitude is sledom considered.

At one private campground other campers were partying and noisy late into the night. When the manager was approached he said they are paying guests too. Spose he had a point, but we weren't paying guests the next day. We moved to a state park and camping close to us was a biker gang and my thoughts were we made a bad move, but they were quiet, and there were patrols by park rangers.
At another state park a party was in progress and at 11:00PM, quiet time the rangers moved in and shut sdown the party.

The facilities are always clean, the camp sites are well spaced, campers satisfaction is always primary and the camp grounds we have stayed at are family orieted not party oriented.

Another negative for private campgrounds or commercial, is spae they tend to try to crowd in as many as possible.

We have a state park just 2 mile from us that i visit regularly and find it very enjoyable.
