I don't see the big deal. I've always called them Crusade anyway!! Just because they changed their name doesn't mean that they have removed Christ from their foundation and mission. It's much to-do about nothing!

Has to do with stealth evangelism. Churches want their name to sound like something "new age" to attract cash customers.

I disagree completely. That motivation has nothing to do with the change of most church names. At least it has nothing to do with the change of Campus Crusade and nothing to do with the name change of my church as well.

Oh - the horror! I took out the name of Christ in the Campus Crusade name. Wait - there I did it again!! :tonofbricks:

It is a shame to hide the name of Christ. They will lose a lot of support.

Do you have the name of Christ in your church name?

Poor Logic. Why would removing the name of Christ ever be necessary? what purpose does it serve? Having it as part of the name and then removing it says something.

It doesn't say much to me other than they are trying to find a name that may be a bit more modern. MANY companies are doing that and even the SBC is looking to change their name. It doesn't mean that they are leaving their focus on Christ and other than those people who make a big to-do about nothing, I don't think there will be much issue in the long-term.

So the name Christ interferes with being modern? This is not the same thing as just anyone and everyone changing their name. The name changing itself is not the issue. The view that Christ no longer needs to be part of the name when it has stood so since 1951 says quite a bit. It does mean a great deal and is a big deal by many people I know. And everyone within my influential circle will hear about this. Very sad

Nope. They very well could have been CRU all along and decided to go with Crusade for Christ or something. It's just a new name, not a new mission. As I said, I've always called it (I mistyped in the first post where I said this) Campus Crusade for no other reason than it was easier - not because I had any issue with the name of Christ.

If you have an issue with it, fine. Don't support a fine organization. However, I will continue to support it no matter what their name is because I believe in the mission - not the name on the letterhead.

Yep I do. The name was put there for a reason. It stood for something. It was not just some name on a letterhead. Now that something has been removed. Quite a shame.

I agree with you let everyone know from the hearing of the name. There is an evangelism by just putting Jesus in the title which is why Christmas is so offensive to people.

A person or group will be seen for the Christlike nature in them, the life lived. A name, banner, cross around your neck or a fish on your van means very little.

This is just not correct. The life lived is as important as the name of Christ and its banners.

Well, Christmas is not offensive to people because of the name of Christ in the name.

But I do hope your church has the name of Jesus in it or else your church is not doing proper evangelism.

You know it takes some restraint to respond to views different than your own without misrepresenting them.

No, I'm not misrepresenting anything. Thinkingstuff said " There is an evangelism by just putting Jesus in the title which is why Christmas is so offensive to people." So I just hoped that since the name of Jesus is so important in the title of something that His church most certainly has the name of Jesus in it as well!

Anybody can say they are a Christian, it doesn't mean a thing. The bible doesn't say "You will know them by their name." Jesus said "You will know them by their fruits." I remember when the Mormons had alot of critics way way back. They made the "Jesus Christ" much bigger and more pronounced in their banner to take some of the heat off. Didn't change a thing. The life lived is the proof.

If they wanted a new "brand", I could understand eliminating "Campus" from the name, since they have long since expanded the ministry beyond just campus ministry.

But I just cant find anything positive about eliminating the name "Christ" from the ministry name.
