I know that there are those on this board who would disagree with me, probably vehemently, but I still believe that those who framed the Constitution, the Declaration of Independance and our Emendments did so with the Bible in mind and God in their heart of hearts!

George Washing ton said this on October 3, 1789 - "Whereas it is the duty of all Nations to acknowledge the providence of Almighty God, to obey his will, to be grateful for his benefits, and humbly to implore his protection and favor-- and whereas both Houses of Congress have by their joint Committee requested me to recommend to the People of the United States a day of public thanksgiving and prayer to be observed by acknowledging with grateful hearts the many signal favors of Almighty God especially by affording them an opportunity peaceably to establish a form of government for their safety and happiness."

John Adams said, "We have no government armed with power capable of contending with human passions unbridled by morality and religion. Avarice, ambition, revenge or gallantry would break the strongest cords of our Constitution as a whale goes through a net. Our Constitution is designed only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate for any other.” And on INdependance Day 1837, His Son JOhn Quincey Adams said, "Why is it that, next to the birthday of the Savior of the world, your most joyous and most venerated festival returns on this day [the Fourth of July]?" "Is it not that, in the chain of human events, the birthday of the nation is indissolubly linked with the birthday of the Savior? That it forms a leading event in the progress of the Gospel dispensation? Is it not that the Declaration of Independence first organized the social compact on the foundation of the Redeemer's mission upon earth? That it laid the cornerstone of human government upon the first precepts of Christianity?"

Ben Franklyn prayed before Congress on June28, 1787 - "I have lived, Sir, a long time and the longer I live, the more convincing proofs I see of this truth -- that God governs in the affairs of men. And if a sparrow cannot fall to the ground without his notice, is it probable that an empire can rise without his aid? We have been assured, Sir, in the sacred writings that "except the Lord build they labor in vain that build it." I firmly believe this; and I also believe that without his concurring aid we shall succeed in this political building no better than the Builders of Babel: We shall be divided by our little partial local interests; our projects will be confounded, and we ourselves shall be become a reproach and a bye word down to future age. And what is worse, mankind may hereafter this unfortunate instance, despair of establishing Governments by Human Wisdom, and leave it to chance, war, and conquest.

I therefore beg leave to move -- that henceforth prayers imploring the assistance of Heaven, and its blessings on our deliberations, be held in this Assembly every morning before we proceed to business, and that one or more of the Clergy of this City be requested to officiate in that service."

I have never believed anything else when it comes to how and why America came about! Men and women traveled the seas to the new land for the purpose of being able to worship without the church mandating how they do it! This was a nation founded on Bibleical principles, and I have to wonder if we can change the direction and course of this nation by returning the source of the what is all good, the Bible?

So, what do you think? Can the Bible Still Guide America's Footsteps on the Narrow Path?

No, the Bible cannot guide AMERICA'S footsteps on the narrow path. The Bible CAN guide individual people's footsteps on the narrow path. Big difference. Don't expect America to follow the Bible. Win people to Jesus and they will follow the Bible.

The Bible can help us a corporate people, but is meant for the Church, not a pagan nation.

Now let everybody say AMEN!!!:applause: Politics must really confuse people. The same people who speak of America corporately changing one day will lambhast others the next day for not recognizing them as individuals.

But I believe that's what happens when folk's true motives come through. The light of the Holy Spirit shows that , in truth, their concern is politics and other things and NOT seeing folks saved.

If the guiding of the Holy Spirit is being heeded, the direction is gonna be about individuals being changed into new creations. About individuals being guided by God's word. About loving individuals.

We can't very well expect the country to be changed when INDIVIDUALS aren't being changed.

The word of God points the lost to Christ and new creation. That's true change.

But it also serves in sanctifying the new creation.

    Now here's the thing:
The lost are doing what the lost are supposed to do.
The narrow path is for people who have already been saved.

So if things are all askew in the United States, it's the result of the SAVED getting off the narrow path and unrepentantly staying there. It's got nothing to do with folks who aren't on the narrow path and acting the way they are supposed to act without Christ.

When we have created idols out of politics, and will support men who are 100% against Jesus Christ, and will say that we're pro-life for the unborn while supporting taking the life of the born; while we dishonor and disrespect those God has placed in authority over us ; when our first instinct is to ship the poor back to the closest border instead of showing them the compassion of Christ; when we are absolutely ugly to anyone who doesn't sharethe same POV--- and will try to justify ALL of these things.

Is there any wonder why the country is where it is?

It's not because of the lost doing what they are supposed to do. It's because of the saved not acting and living like the saved.

The Bible---the word of God should be directing saved INDIVIDUALS into more Godliness. But we want to point at all them when the problem is all us.

    Once again ....

your sarcastic remarks are not necessary. If you have a better question, post it! It you do not like the topic of the OP, don't read it!

If you are as rude in life as you are on cyber space, you must be a lonely person!

You really need to stop reading the nonexistent into someone else's comments. There was no sarcasm or rudeness.

You'll find that he makes those type of claims a lot because it gets him favor with the folks who agree with him.

Just take it with a grain of salt and recognize that if you're not affirming what he says, that he'll have to start denigrating you in order to make your comments look spurious.

After a while he'll pretend to be taking the high road while continuously trying to side insult you.

Will eventually end up on your IGNORE list for obvious reasons.

You once again are callinmg out those here who do not share your "political views!"

Should we have compassion and concern for illegals flooding our nation, yes, bujt just because we also want to secure our borders for "AMERICAn citizens" does not mean that we disobeying Christ!

And God rules the hearts of all people, so far better to have someone lost who is trying to at least follow moral standards then someone professing Jesus, yet who always mocks him by their agendas!

And just because we wish to have God morals in our cultures, yes, even that morality that you seem to despise so much, does not make us "un Christ like"

And it is NOT a sin to be involved and concerned with politics/morality from Biblical conviction, correct?

I do not agree with most of his "political" views, yet I agree with his post 100%. You are being intentionally dishonest and are trying to discredit what he posted just because it steps on your toes and you don't like it. You are proving everything he has posted in this thread accurate by trying to turn what he said into something political so you can scream "liberal."

That burning smell you noticed is your backside...

I did NOT reply back to Zaac in any fashion that was hostile, so why the "burn notice?"

Do you agree with him that one MUST fit up his ahendas in order to really show the "love of Christ?"

Why no t have USA open all borders, lose the military, and just allow all people to do as they please, without any mentioning of it being sin or not?

Why not quit idolizing a country and a flag and put the focus back on Christ and the cross? Zaac is right when he states that this country, this world, is falling apart because Christians have convinced themselves that politics is the great commission rather than seeing souls saved. The tighter the political hands tries to squeeze out immorality the more people slip through and turn against Christians.

Your response is a perfect example. Over dramatized whiny nonsense rather than a rational conversation. Who said anything about open borders and no military? How is giving aid and comfort to those from south of us letting everyone do as they please? Since when is seeking safety and a job a sin? I can give you scripture after scripture saying we should be giving aid and comfort to these people. Give ONE solitary verse which says the opposite!

When the Bible actually does guide the majority of individuals in this nation, it will also be guiding the nation in toto, because the majority will be acting on the principles learned from God's word.

We should help those who do arrive here if children, but also should and must get the Borders protected so that we can have secured borders, for there are really bad guys and terrorists on those trains in, not just kids!

the USA was not a nation under Covenant with God as OT israel was, but was based upon principles of the Bible for stanrds/morals/governing/economy etc, so the more we tended to keep those concepts, the more God was able to bless this land!

What you believe and what is true can be very different things. Moreover, those who try to do history by the uses of quotes often fail to remember that there were great disagreements about the role of religion in government, so you can cherry-pick quotes to support just about every position. Furthermore, one can be a fervent Christian and support the institutional separation of church and state precisely BECAUSE of your religious convictions.

What is rarely mentioned when Christians use this quote is that Franklin was essentially ignored by his fellow delegates and they did not pray.

Yes they did. But then as soon as they set up a colonial government, many groups DID try to enforce their religious opinions on their citizens. Baptists were often persecuted in the colonies for their views. It is sad that Baptists don't know their own history, for instance, the story of Obadiah Holmes.

See this is where human foolishness often enters the equation. Where has God said in His word to only love your neighbor who is a child as you love yourself?

Folks get so hung up in political fanfare that completely dismiss what the word of God says.

Let the government worry about secured borders. What's the worst thing that's gonna happen to a Christian if there aren't secured borders?

Love your NEIGHBOR as yourself. There's no age cutoff.

Let the government handle the borders. Christians should be about loving these folks to Christ.
