Canada has an extremely low percentage of Christians. They don't know any better. Canada is a great mission field. I strongly encourage anyone who is considering taking students or planning on taking a mission trip themselves to think about going there.

Canada is 7% eveangilical, and then if you use Tozer's theory that only 20% of the people attending evangilical churches are truely born again you have very few true believers in Canada.

We have even less homosexuals however, less then 1%. Except they have a very good lobbying body, a media that supports them and a goverment that won't say no to them.

Unlike Christians in the US, us in Canada have never been poticularly politicly active (which has both it's benefits and downsides). It's major downside right now is that the Christian community of the world is looking at us right now and asking why aren't the Christians there doing anything about this, becasue they don't see us lobbing the goverment enmass, and we don't have any "major" spokesmen which doesn't help.

I can tell you that we are now doing what we have always been doing. Preaching the gospel to those who will listen. If people don't coem to Christ, they will keep on leading out nations down to where it's going, no matter how many Christians protest.

    Hi Brother Bugman,

You are not alone in your struggles. For God has raised up Christians around the world who are willing to pray for your situation, and I for one will, and I am sure I am not alone.

We need to pray for our brothers and sisters in Canada and that He will raise up others in the faith and send great revival to not only Canada but to the world.

Thanks for sharing this, I wasnt aware that Canada had so few that profess to be Christians. Just out of curiosity, what is the predomininate faith?

    your brother in Christ

We have been always focused on minorities because immigration is important to our nation. We have 30 million people yet a huge land area to manage. It seems to me that people who come to the US are strongly encouraged to become "Americans" and the national identity and pride is strongly instilled and promoted. In Canada, we don't encourage all people to become "Canadian" but instead we rush to accommodate multiculturalism and this has led to a strong stance against allowing personal beliefs if ANYONE might be offended. On the surface this appears to be a strength and benefit to those who come here from other part's of the world, but our Charter of Rights and Freedoms has capitalized on this to swing the door open to homosexuality, child pornography, incredible anti spanking pressure etc. etc. etc. and in turn slam the door on anything exclusive (meaning Christianity). We are certainly a godless nation. Pray for revival amongst the saints here.
    Soli Deo Gloria.

    Amen to that, Sola Scriptura.

And when considers how even so-called "Christian" Churches (Anglican Church and United Church, I am looking in your direction) have sold out to this godless society, you can see how hard it is to have an effective Christian witness up there in Canada.

It is not just Canada. There are some states in the USA where same-sex marriage is legal. Will YOUR state be next? [IMG]

    Sue,

Not so. Vermont & Hawaii have come close, but there is no US jurisdiction that recognizes homosexual "marriages".

Not up for debate, but just a question. Is it common for Christians to chew tobacco in the South??

Yep... and get pregnant before 17, too.

A local pastor gave these numbers this past week but I have not 'seen' verification. In MY county, 83% of the population is not a member of ANY church.

Remember now, that I'm in Georgia!

I guess the point I was going to make was that, as evangelical Christians in Canada, we frown on any use of tobacco products.

Yet, we are looked upon as needing American evangelization to save our poor nation.

American missionaries and preachers are quite welcome in Canada, but please leave your baggage at home. Come in love, but not with a nose in the air.

Check the size of your prisons, crime in the streets and other stats just as bad,,,America ain't so great! is it?

    Cheers,

    Jim

Are we now comparing tobacco use and getting pregnant before the age of 17 with the crime of sodomy?

It is not a sin, either by Biblical standard or by the laws of this country, for a woman to get pregnant before the age of 17. According to the Bible, if a woman is old enough to get pregnant she is old enough to get married with no implication of sin whatsoever.

Most states in the US allow women to marry at the age of 16 and Kansas and Massachusetts at the age of 12. I knew a woman here in Arkansas who married when she was 12 (I don't know how old her husband was) and remained so till he died at age 83.

Tobacco use, or anything like it, is not even mentioned in the Bible, much less with a negative conotation. Some people have tried to use I Corinthians chapter 6 (which speaks of sinning against our body) as a censure against tobacco use. But they fail to note that Paul said the ONLY sin "against the body" is the sin of fornication!

By the way, the same man who married the woman when she was 12 started smoking when he was five and smoked till he was 83 and died with no apparent health effects from smoking. Was it a sin, then, for him to smoke? He died when he was run over by a semi. Was it a sin for him to carelessly walk out in front of a semi?

My goodness, it staggers my imagination to think that we have been reduced to comparing teenage pregnancy and smoking cigarettes to the abomination of sodomy! God help us!

    Jim,

It is strange, indeed, that Baptists teach that the whole human race is TOTALY DEPRAVED and then try to act as if one nation is more depraved than another. That makes not sense and all!

If this pregnancy is caused by premarital sex, then yes.

This is true. I think that he was talking about teenagers who get pregnant out of wedlock.

Your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit. You should take care of it. Besides, what if smoking causes a brother to stumble? Wouldn't that make it sin?

Personally, I don't care if people smoke or not. However, there are many who would argue that it is destroying God's creation, and is therefore, a sin.

Anytime that we sin as Christians, whatever that sin happens to be, it is an abomination to God. (Titus 1:16) All sin is on the same level.

Oh, and don't minimize the impact of teenage pregnancy. I've known too many Christian young girls that had their lives ruined because of it.

    ScottEmerson,

    You said,

"Anytime that we sin as Christians, whatever that sin happens to be, it is an abomination to God. (Titus 1:16)."

Yes it is! That is not the issue at all. The issue is that we have taken things that cannot be proven to be sinful at all and compared them to something the Bible specifically calls vile, strange, unatural, and abominable.

    Hi Jim,

Brother I don't think anyone is putting Canada down or saying that the good ole USA is better than Canada. As a matter of fact I think Canada is a very beautiful country (its the cold that I would have a problem living with)

I for one am reacting to the laws on homosexual marriages being passed (and I do believe that the USA is not very far behind)which is clearly against Gods moral law. Again this is not a Canadian problem, it is a world problem. Canada is being "Picked on" because it was the first to pass the law but the world will soon follow.

As far as America goes, we have probably got a larger percentage of people who are homesexual than Canada and from what I can tell a whole lot more outspoken.

Our freedoms in all countries will be taken away (Especially Christianity) when anti-Christ makes his appearance known. and these things that are happenning now are a sign of the times of just how close we are to that very day.

But Praise God that the return of our Lord Jesus Christ will be just around the corner when that happens.

If I have offended you on the post I have submitted, then I do seek you forgiveness. It was never my intention to do so or as far as that goes to offend any one who is homosexual, instead I am trying to point out that God looks upon the act as immoral and they may want to look at what they are doing from Gods perspective.

I realize that we all sin everyday, and most are sorry and a lot struggle and are constantly going to God for forgiveness and I believe this is weakness.

But there are those who practice sins of various sorts such as homosexuality, fornications, drunkenness, stealing, etc.. which Paul addresses in Romans 1:29-32 and we as Christians just turn our head, when we should be instead exposing it for what it is, sin

vs 32 in the NIV version states that not only do they take pleasure in them, they also approve of others who practice them.

seems today that many who are called by Christ name could care less what is going on in the world and this is what I am having trouble with. whats going to happen when we are threatened with death? are we going to deny our Lord? we are not even defending our faith when we have the power of a vote.

I have said enough, God bless

Oh my goodness Mark! I certainly am not comparing smoking and teen pregnancy to sodomy! HOWEVER... someone made the remark that we need to evangelize in the U.S. and I supported that remark with my numbers. I also added that a local pastor told his church this past week that in our county (Carroll County, Georgia) alone, 83% of our neighbors are not members of ANY church. That is staggering here in the south where we have more churches than gas stations and grocery stores combined!

Diane, I would doubt that pastor's anecdotal remark. Although church rolls are swelled by the reporting of non-attenders, Barna research shows that 71% of adults went to church regularly as a child and that 61% of that group still participate. Of the ones who did not go as a child, 78% still do not attend. I would also wager that the attendee percentages are higher in Georgia than in most parts of the U.S.
