Capitalist Wal-Mart goes communist

Had Wal-Mart been around in 1940, their Berlin store may have had a place to sign up in the Hitler Youth.

 

I guess, when in China, do as the Chinese do...the only way to do business there...or most other countries..you respect the laws of the land.

How so? The parallel is quite apropos. They have a booth to sign up in the Chinese Communist Party, so what is the difference? Do you think the CCP is a better organization than the Hitler Youth?

When it comes to making a buck it seems all honor and intergity goes out the window. Wal-Mart is free ( at least in the U.S. ) to do what it wants but the hypocrisy of dealing with the communist Chinese knows no bounds, and that goes for any other American company who does business there.

Well, thank Congress and Bush. China officially was signed into Permanent Trade Relations in January 2002 - despite their human rights violations (like excuting political prisoners, including Christians, so they can sell their organs on the black market). President Bush and our lovely Congress knew all of this, but removed the temporary status from China anyway and gave them Permanent trade status. Like stated above, when it comes to a buck, ethics and morals fly out the window.

 

I don't know why anyone is surprised at what Wal-Mart is doing in China. It is doing there what it is doing here: trying to pad its bottom line. Honor and integrity have nothing to do with it. Yes, Wal-Mart offers products at low prices that other local businesses have difficulty competing with. However, more is becoming known about the dark side of this equation. Wal-Mart also pays such low wages with few benefits, that many of its employees have to look to public assistance for things like health care. In fact, one state (Maryland, I think) passed a law that threatened to charge large corporations (10,000 employees in the state, I think) if they did not include some sort of health care benefit for their employees. I have not looked back at this, but there was a news story about it in the last year or so. There were several corporations in the state that would fall under this law, but Wal-Mart was the only one in danger of sanctions. Also, more communities are refusing to let Wal-Mart into them

The only hypocrisy involved concerns Wal-Mart's commercials that claim that Wal-Mart is a good neighbor.

In the interest of honesty, I have to admit that I shop at Wal-Mart and Sam's Club occasionally for work clothes (e. g., overalls, flannel shirts, shorts, etc.), so my hands are not clean either. But if everyone's shopping record there were like mine, there would only be one store in town, and it would be about 1/4 the size it is now.
