Car Accidents

    Since August of 2008 Jeanne and I have had 6 car accidents.

    In the 2000 Neon in August Jeanne rear ended a car at a stop light, then a week later she backed out of a parking space and hit a truck.

    Soon after the second accident we purchased a 2nd car a 2005 PT Cruiser Convertible.

    A couple of weeks after purchasing he PT Cruiser the Neon gets hit in a parking lot. The car that hit the Neon managed to hit the drivers side of the Neon, the passenger side of a Neon parked next to me, and shoved the other Neon into a third car.

    That is three accidents for the Neon in the course of about two months.

    Fast forward to December. Jeanne gets rear ended in the PT Cruiser, with the Holidays and such we don't have to get this fixed. In January, Jeanne turns in front of a car taking out the front end of the Cruiser. It is now isn't safe to drive. The Cruiser is in the shop or over a month. We get it back on Feb. 20th. with alot of new parts on both the front and back of it.

    Last night Jeanne and I found ourselves without kids, so we dressed up and went out for a nice dinner. I was driving the Cruiser, sitting in a right turn lane when SMACK we get rear ended again. Jeanne is getting upset saying I just got it back.

    I get out look at the bumper and see it is cracked and will most likely have to be replaced again. I look up to see the other driver getting out of his car thinking that he looks familiar. Then I realize that the diver of the other car is the Mayor of Rockford.

    3 Accidents in the Neon, 3 in the Cruiser, and the last one is the Mayor. What's next I get hit by the Governor, or maybe the President? Where does it end.

    Not real point to this post other than to laugh at my misfortune, maybe that's why it was the Mayor, so I could laugh about it.

    Jeanne is afraid the Mayor will try to get of out figuring people would take his word over ours. I told her not to worry about it, because it's an election year and if he tries to give us a hard time all I have to do is say I am going to the newspapers. He doesn't want any bad press.

    Bill, Ron went through a period like this when we first moved to Winston. He'd driven for ages with nothing happening. We move to Winston and he's like a target for people to hit him (in town and on the road).

    It passed - but it was hard for a while. (He even let me drive him a few places during that time :tongue3: )

    Driving down the road, a deer jumps put of woods and lands on your windshield, probably an accident. None of the 6 described collisions
    were accidental. They all had a preventable cause.

    Yes they all had a preventable causes, but they are still accidents.

    The situations were unexpected and undesirable events, and as far as I know there was a lack of intent for them to happen. I don't see any definition of accident that says an accident is not preventable.

    I have been lucky that I haven't been involved in any wrecks yet. I have seen a lot of people from out of state that always seem to get into wrecks here. They say that Mobilians don't know how to drive. After going into Biloxi, MS & Atlanta, GA, I think that they don't know how to drive.

    Anytime I get near the Mississippi state line, Thet traffics seems to move faster & the cars will cut you off when you least expect it.

    In 2000, I went to Atlanta & was on I-85. It was raining & the traffic was bumper to bumper moving at 60 MPH. That was scary. If you slow down they are almost sure to crash into you. I have always made a point to make sure that if I am going to drive through Atlanta to always drive during the early morning hours. That way traffic isn't anywhere near as bad.

    In the 3 and a half years I've been in Florida I've had two minor fender benders (broken taillight the first time, no damage the second time), and I can't remember when my last accident was before August 2005--a LONG time ago.

    Now I know why I hesitate to drive in Illinois...........And they want to get us old blokes off the roads!!!!!

    In all honesty, I feel safer with the older people on the road than I do with the younger people.

    Younger people are just too careless, don't pay attention, & don't have much experience. Not to mention they are hot headed when it comes to getting from point A to point B.

    The older people have experience, are generally careful, & generally pay attention to the traffic, but may miss something due to a physical problem. Generally, the physical problem tends to overshadow their abilities behind the wheel.
