Car Warranties

Mrs. Salty is looking at purchasing an extended warranty. The Ford warranty on her Ford Focus has run out (5 years)

She is considering Car Shield.

Has anyone done business with Car shield? If so - would you recommend?

What company would you recommend?

I have seen three different companies advertise. Car Shield is one of them.
Everything Breaks is another company. Anyway that is two of the three.

I've heard both sides of Car Shield, I've heard it is great, and I have heard it is a nightmare. I personally have not dealt with them since my truck is 22 years old lol.

Never heard anything but bad from all the extended warranty companies.

I switched to TOCO a couple of years back, and they have been good. They even applied a $40 discount recently when I sent them a receipt of my most recent oil change. Having said that, it could have been a longevity reward. Still, that is who I recommend.

I think it is probably a scam, as we get a wave of ads about every 6 or 7 years. But like many others, my car is 26 years old with 267000 miles, so I have no first hand knowledge.

Put the money in a deposit account, at least that way you can pay for the repair from the accumulation, and someone else isn’t using your money to get rich.

Also, I know some repair folks don’t deal with a “warranty” company so you have to pay directly anyway and hope a portion is reimbursed.

personally, I dealt with one about a seal in the power steering.

They cover “mechanical failure” and not seals. They were worthless on a $1500 repair, and this was during the late 1980’s.

I asked an ASE certified mechanic about them. He said he won't even process the claims anymore because their denial rate is so high. Said that they almost always find a reason that they do not have to pay or to pay so little that they might as well not have paid.
