Caths/Prots: Do you believe the other side is saved?

I consider myself an evangelical Protestant. While I do disagree with someof Catholic doctrine, I have always thought that that wasn't a big enough deal to say that Catholics aren't saved.

If you think otherwise, I'm interested to hear why.

I think everyone will be surprised when they get to heaven at who all else is there.

And there be will some surprises as to who all isn't there.

One cannot make a blanket statement that ALL Catholics or ALL Protestants are going to hell. What you can say is that ALL who believe in the blood of Jesus Christ will be saved. And those who don't, won't.

Thankfully, my job is not to decide who is saved and who is not. I am commissioned to preach the word and live the word. It is His business to judge the just and the unjust.

Frankly, I think we spend far too much time condemning others. I would much rather present a positive picture of the Lord Jesus Christ, and let people decide who is saved and who isn't.

Cheers,

Jim

I believe the RCC teaches a false gospel of works salvation, absent of grace, but that does not mean there are no saved catholics, I've known catholics whe were saved, not by the 'methods' of the RCC.

I know some saved Catholics. (I also know some lost Baptists, but that's another thread...) Every saved Catholic I have talked to says they were saved because someone witnessed to them. It was not a result of the teachings of the Catholic church.

Now, just what does the Catholic church teach? I'm not sure. But it seems that it isn't a Biblical teaching of salvation.

What must I do to be saved? Believe on the Lord Jesus and you will be saved.

I know some Catholics who are saved. My former pastor, who came out of Catholicism had never heard this message.

It's all upon the individual, and only he and God knows.

I don't understand how someone who is saved can remain in the RCC, but I do know of one who goes simply because he always has.

I know of some who still attend a Catholic church becuause they are trying to spread the truth there. They say that they will have very little influence over their friends there if they leave. They consider themselves missionaries.

RCC Catholicism itself is cultic, loaded with erroneous belief systems, traditions, rules, and so on. I attended a Catholic funeral the other day, first time in my life, and for the first 20 minutes or so I thought I would have to temper my criticism of the RCC. However, when the Priest sprinkled the coffin and announced that the body therein was saved by the baptismal waters, and that we still had to pray for the departed to be kept from Hell, and when he drank the juice and ate the wafer, announcing that it was the body and blood of Jesus, I remembered that this is one strange religion.

I think it was Dr. Bob who used to relay the following story:

Someone once said to me "You're so narrow, I bet you believe only Baptists will be in heaven." I said "I'm so narrow, I don't even think that all the Baptists will be there"

Just seems to fit

I believe that a person who fully understands Catholic doctrine, and at the same time fully understands the gospel message cannot believe in both at the same time and be saved. You must choose between one or the other. The two are at extreme poles from one and other. The Bible says that you cannot serve two masters.

As a Christian who is neither Protestant nor Catholic, here are my thoughts:

Anyone who calls on the Lord Jesus Christ to save him without any merit believing the truth about Him, and strives to serve Jesus Christ as Lord, will be saved. Ideally, they both ultimately serve one living Master.

I believe that there is a predominance of practicing Catholic laypeople who fit this bill, and most practicing Protestants, most practicing Orthodox, and other Christians.

Agreed, emphatically.

I put Roman Catholics into the same category as Mormons, in that there may be some Roman Catholics who are saved in spite of Roman Catholic teaching, but Roman Catholic teaching will never save anyone.

I believe that there are a lot of false conversions in the Roman Catholic religion.

And that's an excellent point. If Roman Catholics are saved, then why would they stay in the Roman Catholic church?

Those saved Catholics I know of are staying in the RCC to try and win their Chtholic friends to Christ. They consider it mission work.

Then they're disobedient. The Bible tells us to flee churches and teachers that teach false doctrine. There is no exception for "mission work".

Darron steele's profile identifies him as Church of Christ. Those folks claim apostolic origin. Or at the very least a restoration of apostolic doctrines and practices.

Many Baptists (known as Landmarkers) claim both apostolic origin and perpetuity from New Testament times.

Some Baptists and Church of Christ (And RCC, as well), claim to be the church Jesus established. Or, at the very least, that their doctrines and practices are the closest to the early church of any other so-called church or denomination.

Church of Christ folks don't consider themselves a denomination.

If I have mis-stated, Darron Steele or bmerr can set the record straight.
