"Celebrate Diversity"

Here in Syracuse, NY; there is a major issue. Many want to dispose of the Chris Columbus statue (which happens to be adjacent to a Roman Catholic church)

There cry is "Celebrate Diversity - Replace Columbus"

To me that sounds hypocritical.

Lets see they want diversity- but at the expense of "ridding" the city of a well know Explorer.

Open for discussion.

The Euro-centric exaltation of Columbus is regrettable. But as one who went against the flow of convention, and changed the history of the "new" (meaning recently found by Europeans) world, he should be honored in history. Just how humans first came to those continents is unknown at present, but those explorers should not be relegated to the dust bin of history.

The Diversity crowd wants people with different skin colors who think exactly like them.

Diversity of color rather than diversity of thought. In other words, to them a person's diversity is based only on their skin color.

Sheesh, that almost sounds racist, don't it?

You mean to tell me that the statue of Columbus who was a devout Catholic (which happens to be adjacent to a Roman Catholic church), removal is threatened and the church is saying nothing?... If you remove the statue of Columbus, remove the one of George Floyd too!... Brother Glen:)

Side note: There is a large Italian population on the North-side of Syracuse. This RC church, Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, is located right downtown. Evidently, the property that the statue is on - is not owned by the church.

IN addition, many attend the rallies and holding signs that say, among other things : "I am Italian, but Columbus does not represent me."
