The defeat of U.S. Sen. Joseph Lieberman is good news for Republicans! It shows that an establishment Democrat can be defeated within his own party.

Republicans need to vote Republican against Lieberman in November or else vote for the winner of the Democrat Primary. It is important that this pro-abortion Lieberman is prevented from ever becoming President of the USA.

I am more than just a little upset to see him go, although he may still win as an independent.

What I really find amazing is that Sean Hannity and Rush Limbaugh spent an incredible amount of time talking about Senator Lieberman. Kinda gives reinforcement to the claim that he is too close to the GOP, and was not really a Democrat anymore.

But Lieberman is a good man. Back in the early days of the Civil Rights struggle, he was front and center. We owe him a debt of gratitude for taking a stand. For once, I actually agreed with Sean Hannity.

Wow: I think I'm gonna be sick.

Regards, CMG - haven't exchanged anything with you in a while - I trust that you and yours are doing well and being showered with God's Blessings,
    BiR

Hello, BiR! How are you? Yeah, my cup is overflowing.

Well, I don't hear talk radio anymore.

I don't think that Lieberman is such a nice guy because I think that he is pro-abortion. Just another liberal. Glad to see that he was humiliated in his own primary. As a Republican, I am glad to see confusion in the Democrat Party.

Hi, CMG. Will you feel the same way about Republican Bill Frist, should he get the nomination for Republican presidential race? He is pro-abortion, too, though it was cloaked for awhile...another wolf in sheep's clothing, IMO. From CNN dot com:

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist endorsed government-funded research on human embryonic stem cells Friday, breaking with President Bush and the religious conservatives he's been courting for a 2008 presidential bid. He drew praise from former first lady Nancy Reagan.

I've already decided he will not get my vote because of his actions on stem cells (abortion) and also his attitude about our wide open borders and illegal immigration. He will never get my vote again, for anything. He was a better cardiothoracic surgeon than he was a senator from my state.

Lieberman will never be president but he will return to the Senate. I am pretty sure he will win as a independent. Why? He will get most of the votes he got in the primary, other democrats will also vote for him, independents will vote mainly for him, and a few republicans will also vote for him. The current democrat candidate, Ned Lamont, is too angry to win a full election. His "acceptance speech" was depressing and looked more like an angry protest. The republican who is running against Lieberman and Lamont does not have a chance.

At the current time I cannot think of one republican, who is running for president in '08, that I would be willing to vote for. I will probably vote for a third party or not vote for the president at all.

Never could figure Lieberman out. Sometimes he seemed honest and a good liberal, and at other times he seemed just as dishonest as the rest of them.

I'm afraid that if his was a "Democratic seat" that Lieberman was as good as it was going to get, though. I respected him for being willing to buck his party and standing with the President on the GWOT and war in Iraq. No, he wasn't pro-life, but we're fools if we expect that every Senator will be. I hope a Republican wins but no bets.

Might want to look at the same polls that predicted Lamont's win. They are showing him as an overwhelming favorite over Liebermann and the Republican candidate in a three way race, and a whopping favorite over the Republican if Liebermann decides to back out.

Whether or not a particular candidate, Republican or Democrat, is for or against abortion is a moot point. The current sitting preseident has opted not to do anything about it and leave it as a continuing issue. Frankly, the Republican party as a whole, and most Republican politicians in general, aren't interested in the issue at all and I think that's worse than the Democratic position of leaving the choice up to the individual.

If the Christians who support right wing political nut cases would stop spending their money on political contributions and worldly power, and start investing it in real ministry that touches the lives of women who seek abortions, and genuinely looks for a way to help them either keep their baby or provide for its adoption, some progress might be made and politicians might take them seriously. As long as they continue to trade their votes and financial support for nothing, and continue to do nothing themselves, no one is going to listen to them. Instead of whining about what isn't happening, why not do some real good?

Thanks to each and everyone of you for some very pithy comments.

Yes, Bushito has been a disappointment for spending so much and for doing so little on social issues.

No, I do not respect Frist on the stem cell issue, and he is not a very exciting prospect for a presidential candidate.

Another fellow was telling me today that Lieberman lost because anti-semites chose him as a target among all Democrats who happened to vote for the war. The left has come to express open hatred of Jews in spite of the fact that Jews vote 98% Democrat. This fellow thinks that the Democrats will win control of the House in November and cause a withdrawal from Iraq even though it would mean that the war would be brought back to American territory as it was on Nine Eleven. The war has produced a lot of hard times and the majority of Americans want it the lazy way all the time. The public does not see this war against terrorism as a war for survival of the American republic, but Islam because of their so-called holy writings is dedicated to the destruction of Israel and the USA.

Do you think that GOP corruption in Congress will give the victory to the Democrats and a cut-and-run policy?

I agree with Martin that Lieberman will retain his seat in November.

Hi, Ken! Do you think that his buddy Al Gore will help him campaign? What do you think that the Clintons will do? Do you think that the left will tear the Democrat Party up or do you think that the Democrat establishment will silence the looney left?

At the risk of running this into the ground, Lieberman is in a difficult place. If he runs against his party's primary-elected candidate as an independent, then he sets a bad example for the Democrats in that he will not accept the will of the people. Also, as an establishment Democrat and former vice-presidential candidate, Lieberman could never again invoke party discipline since he himself will have circumvented it.

Lieberman has no alternative except to endorse the winner of the primary or else to keep quiet and let the election in November go forward. Anything else will set a bad example for the Democrat Party. It may be true that setting a deadline for withdrawal is a bad idea but many Democrats believe that it should be done and they can cite the examples of Korea and Viet Nam where the USA cut and ran.

So you're saying that good liberals are honest? I agree.

Good conservatives are honest, too. It's just that good conservatives aren't as common in Washington as they used to be.

This is true, Galatian, and it may be the reason that the GOP loses the Congress this fall. Corruption has certainly hurt the GOP. Coupled with big spending, it seems like a revival of the Nixon era.

I think that the Dems will move to the left and defeat Lieberman in November. As an advocate of abortion or pro-choice, Lieberman deserves defeat, doesn't he? I myself will be glad to see a Democrat big-wig bite the dust.

I think Lieberman stands a chance to retain his seat in the Senate if he runs as an Independent but Cheney weighing in on Lamont making absurd suggestions that Lamont's views on Iraq could embolden the the terrorist will only strengthen Lamonts campaign and further weaken Liebermans chances of remaining in the Senate if he chooses to run for that seat.

I think that you are right, Rocko! Lamont won fair and square and the GOP should stay out of it except to celebrate the defeat of Gore's running mate.

Do you think that Lieberman will do anything except set a bad example for Democrats by running again?

Don't you think that the Democrats will run in November on a platform of ending the war in Iraq by July 2007 no matter who has won or lost?

Frankly, I expect DeLay and other crooks in the GOP and the big spenders to cause the Congress to change hands this November, don't you?

That would end Bush's term and bring the war on terror to a defense of the USA only, wouldn't it, Rocko? The Constitution Party would probably support the Democrats on that point as they believe that the war is unconstitutional.

From what I understand CMG, the Republicans have a very weak canbdidate in the running and is not pulling in any major support. In a three way race Schlesinger runs dead last. Lieberman is the best Democrat friend the Bush Administration has had during the Iraq conflict and would serve the Bush administration well that he be re-elected as an Independent. It will be interesting to watch how this race goes.
