I know that the DD-214 is valuable to an ex serviceman, but how about the certificae of retirement? Is that just a decoration to hang on the wall?
I am asking because the command, at the unit where I retired, presented my certificate to me plastered to a wood slab, glazed over with clear epoxy. It looked like a piece of decoupage art. I graciously accepted it although I knew that they had essentially destroyed the document. I would have preferred to have the raw document, then get a frame for it.
It is in a landfill somewhere now. I just didn't care for decoupage art.

I would say for the most part it is just a decoration.

I have sever items - NCO grad, ARCOM, ect, and I display them proudly in my home.
I have just become pastor of a church, and now have an office there. I will be taking a
few of my certificates and hang them in my office.
