I wonder if unaudited, no-bid contracts in the billions helped at all.

    Good!

I hope he made a ton of money. It's good for the charities of the country.

Halliburton does a ton of work for the government other companies won't touch for the low price they do it.

That's what we get when war profiteers run the country, grant themselves and their companies no-bid contracts, and make money with the blood of brave young Americans. Eisenhower warned of the military industrial complex. He was right. War criminals deserve to be incarcerated for life.

One can hardly blame Halliburton for paying Cheney lavishly; he worked hard and well for them, the last six years.

The problem is, Halliburton thinks the Federal treasury is a charity for politically fixed corporations.

Hard to say; Cheney made sure other contractors couldn't bid on most of it. The "low price" for gasoline, BTW:

In Dec. 2003, the Defense Contract Audit Agency (DCAA) confirmed in a preliminary audit that Halliburton and Altamnia had overcharged the U.S. government by at least $61 million through Sept. 2003. The DCCA formerly asked the Pentagon's inspector general to investigate the overcharges and said the fuel importation contract was given to Altanmia "under unusual circumstances." The DCAA was suspicious because the contract was awarded to Altanmia a few days before the bid solicitation process was officially closed. In fact, the bidding process existed for only one day, making it impossible for more than three companies to bid. In addition, Congressman Henry Waxman (R-CA) says evidence exists which indicates officials with Altanmia are close friends of high officials in the Kuwaiti government, which indicates the contract could have been awarded to Altanmia only because of cronyism, not merit. Congressman Henry Waxman makes the following assertions about Altanmia:

    (1) Altanmia received the multimillion dollar contract to import fuel into Iraq even though it had no prior experience in transporting fuel, (2) The Bush administration exerted political pressure on Halliburton and the Army Corp of Engineers to use Altanmia as a subcontractor for importing large quantities of fuel from Kuwait even though importing fuel from Halliburton's subcontractors in Turkey could be done at less than half the cost, and (3) After the DCCA formerly requested the Pentagon's inspector general to investigate the gasoline overcharges, the Army intervened and released Halliburton from its obligation to provide "cost and pricing" data that could justify Altanmia's gasoline prices, thereby making a meaningful audit of Altanmia's charges impossible. A few weeks later, on December 19, 2003, the Army quickly ended the DCAA's audit of the gasoline overcharges. The Army called the overcharges "fair and reasonable." The Army subsequently forced the U.S. government to pay the higher gasoline price even though the Bush administration admitted that "other trucking and oil distributors have made proposals to [Halliburton] on more favorable terms" than Altanmia. Congressman Waxman called the Army's action a "whitewash".

This is hilarious. Your own extremely biased source doesn't even back up your statement.

 I laughed so hard my sides hurt.

That's a rather strong charge. Do you have any evidence to back it up that could stand up in a court case?

You don't think war crimes deserve a life sentence? And besides, this isn't a court...it is an opinion posted on a discussion board. There is a burden of proof to be met if it would ever be in a trial. Surely everyone understands that.

    Sure, if not worse.

What provable war crime has Vice President Cheney committed?

Yes, and to be worth anything an opinion should have something to back it up. Otherwise, it is just a poster letting his fingers run amuck on the keyboard. :)

Barbarian posts the comments of a Republican congressman, as to the blatant overcharging and bid-rigging on the part of Halliburton:

In Dec. 2003, the Defense Contract Audit Agency (DCAA) confirmed in a preliminary audit that Halliburton and Altamnia had overcharged the U.S. government by at least $61 million through Sept. 2003. The DCCA formerly asked the Pentagon's inspector general to investigate the overcharges and said the fuel importation contract was given to Altanmia "under unusual circumstances."

    carpro spins:
How is someone from Cheney's own party "extremely biased?" As you saw, even republicans were disgusted by the level of corruption.

    You don't seem very amused.

Corruption of this sort is very difficult to prove in court, as most of it is conducted behind closed doors. This is why people were so interested in what went on in the policy meetings with Cheney and the big oil companies.

And presumabley, why Cheney was so frantically opposed to letting the public know what the oil companies did to affect US policy.

If I remember history correctly the Nazi's war crimes weren't proven until after the war was over and they were brought to trial. Bush on the other hand has wisely taken the steps to give himself and his neocon administration retroactive immunity from prosecution by redefining the Geneva Convention. The GWOT also known as "the long war" is suppose to last for decades according some high ranking neocon thinkers, and it is begining to look as though they are correct. With all the new "emphasis" (I use that term because I know you don't care for the word propaganda) coming out about Iran and the positioning of U.S. war ships in the Persion gulf about all it would take to trigger a pre emptive strike on Iran is a firecracker going off somewhere in the U.S., Iraq or Israel and the blame placed on Iranians. Whether it will actually be Iranians or another elite sponsored false flag like 9/11, the Gulf of Tonkin, the Maine, or Iran in 1953 won't really matter. The Clean Break/PNAC plan for world domination will move forward and the profits for those well connected to the military industrial complex will increase. Of course thousands maybe millions more will have to die but hey, the elite have always buttered their bread and consolidated their power with the blood of others from ancient Egypt to the present war is a racket.

    Smedly Butler.

Good post poncho. This nation will be a better place when this sad excuse for an administration is out of power. Maybe God will have mercy on our nation and raise up a competent leader, a leader that cares more about the American people than his own power.

I love it when liberals and anti war types quote ol' Smedley. Even though his assessment was accurate at the time, he was one hard nosed Marine.

Try to interfere with his mission as a Marine and he'd smash you like a bug, regardless of what he thought of the "very few".

It's not just this administration. Any administration coming to power in this country will have to face the same global power elites. Any future leader will have to make a choice as they have done since at least 1963 either be a pliant vassal to that power or be undone.
