Child Rape Ruling Stirs Outrage

Child rape is a horrific crime. However, I think it is the correct ruling, not out of any compassion for the rapist, but for the following reason...

It may save the child's life. If a rapist is subject to the death penalty for the rape, he will likely go ahead and kill the child so that it will never be able to tell. After all, if the death penalty is on the table for the rape, he may figure that he may as well go ahead and murder also.

Don't tell me that the punishment does not fit the crime. I have seen this behavior and believe me it ruins the life of a child!!! The child is not dead in the physical sense but is dead in the spirit and ego. If that child does not have an encounter with Christ, he/she will never recover any form of a peaceful life. Most child rapes do end in murder after the rapist has done more than one child. He/she may have ruined up to 10 lives before he/she kills and kill they will when given the opportunity.

Satan is having a field day with this ruling!

Kudos to the U.S. Supreme Court.

The death penalty is rather unevenly handed out in this country. It certainly should not be handed out for something less than the act of murder.

Anyway, no one has been executed for a crime less than murder in about 50 years in this country. This ruling affects about 6 cases in the whole country as only about 5 or 6 states even had such a punishment on the books.

And it's not like the criminals will be getting off. They will face life in prison.

And, MP, you make an excellent point.

Mitch, it is a difficult thing...not because of any support for raping children, but for the reason I mentioned. Also, Ken's points are valid. Emotionally, yeah...get rid of the bad guys...but we have to mete out justice using rational thinking, not emotion. Glad to see you are thinking on this, unlike those who would have a knee jerk reaction. Yes, child rape should anger us all. But all things have unintended consequences, not all of which are good.

Just curious. What would be the definition of "child"? Under 18 years? Under 12? We always seem to want to create laws that cause alot of hair-splitting. A man rapes my child and gets death. A man rapes my Mother and gets 10?

While both occurrences are horrific to rape a child has greater consequences. There is an innocence that is lost an adult does not have and a much less ability to cope with such events because of immaturity. The sentencing should be greater for the child. Although I believe 10 years for rape of anyone is weak and should be reexamined

It's not that the punishment is excessive. As MP mentioned, if you have the death penalty for rape, then there is little incentive not to go ahead and kill the victim. I, for one, would rather see the victim with at least a chance to live.

This is the most backward logic I have seen in a while. Nor is there any evidence that it can be supported in the least.

Look, I know that I have come over strong on this subject and please forgive me for doing so. However, have any of you ever witnessed the family tragedy of children that have been the pleasure doll of a sadistic man?

I HAVE!!

If it were not for the saving grace of my loving Savior Jesus Christ I would have been lost for eternity in bitterness against God and man. I am not going into detail about my personal life but lets let this suffice. If it wasn't for the God fearing mother and father of an 8 year old boy my life would have been a wreck. I did not know it then but as I think on these things today and as I see the wrecked lives of those close to me, I wish I would have had the guts then to have spoken up against what was being done to me and my kin. It is not something that any 8 year old should have ever faced.

If not for the faith of my parents that 8 year old boy would not have made a lasting commitment to his Redeemer.

I am a man that has two grown children and if that had happened to them I would personally see to it that that man/woman did not take another breath! And I am a peaceful man but not in these type of cases.

I am very sorry. This ruling just reopens the wounds that never heal. In my case it would have been best that I never knew of it!

I understand why you would write that; however, you know that is not what God has taught us on the subject of taking revenge. We have a court system to handle justice and God takes care of it after this life.

I'm sorry Ken but unless you have had these same experiences you do not understand. I know that the Word says "Vengeance is mine saith the LORD, I will recompense." I do find comfort there. And I really do thank you for your words. 51 years old and the wound still bleeds.:tear:

No, I do not understand your particular personal experience; however, we all deal with issues during our life that make us personally boiling mad. Therefore, I think that we can all empathize with your emotions.

May our Father strengthen you.

How anyone can make a rationalized argument against the death penalty in the rape of a child is beyond me. The state, biblically is given the green light on executing judgment against deviant, criminal behavior. Yet, there are those that argue the predator would kill the child if he knew he was subject to receiving the death penalty. How about if he or she knew they could possibly be executed for raping a child, then it may be probable that they would refrain from violating a child altogether, also the pervert would not be allowed the opportunity to take advantage of other kids! Just another case of more sympathy for the criminal than the victim. :tear:

While I would support such a sentence, to hold to a lesser sentence would not deter me from voting for any candidate.

I'll probably get slammed for this....

Executing folks who rape kids will eventually become death for any kind of percieved damage to a kid, ergo, death penalty for teaching your kids creation science, death for spanking, for attempting to home school......

Unfortunately, the death penalty would probably not serve as an effective deterrent to this kind of crime.

Now, if it were simply a matter of what deserves punishment, I think that child rapists should be hanged, drawn, and quartered.

That being said, I think we are underestimating the "trauma" that will likely occur to any child rapist in prison. I'm treading lightly here, but I think you know what I mean. Being on Death Row might be an easier experience.
