Does your church use chior robes?

If not, why not, if so, any particular reason

We do not but that would be because we don't have a choir. :D

Robes get in the way of playing electric guitar and drums. LOL

Did you SEE the outfits my girls were wearing for their dance in church? How they don't get all mixed up in those things, I have no idea. There's so much fabric....

:D

We do not and to us it seems it would be a waste of money better used in other places. :)

Reasons I don't like choir robes"
1. Hot
2. Out of date
3. Money spent better else where
4. Requrie that the choir remain in the choir loft
5. What are your reasons?

We have two services on Sunday morning. In our more traditional, liturgical service the choir uses them. In our more contemporary service, they don't.

We've got some, but we don't wear them any more; they're getting a little threadbare, and we're too cheap to buy some more.

I said "No," but I have a hunch there actually are some robes somewhere around, but they are never worn by the choir; and only about half of services is there a choir and the other half an ensemble.

This reminds me of the Andy Griffith Show episode in which Aunt Bee and the others in their ladies' choir threatened to disband if an inheritance left to the church were not used to buy them robes, which they had asked for many times before. I'm glad churches generally do not put such emphasis on outer garb now.

We don't have a choir in my current church nor in my other church.

Actually, in all the churches I have been in, only two choirs regularly wore robes.

I wear a Geneva gown when I preach, why not have the choir in gowns?

Why wear gowns? It interferes with playing stupid guitars and stupider drums in church.

Cheers,

Jim

Geneva gowns? Who knows what they are???? (Actually I do.) And personally, I prefer that the pastors wear them. [But that's just my conservative Presby side coming through.] However, you rarely see them anymore here in the states unless you are in a very traditional church. And I've NEVER seen them in a Baptist church.

"For ever away with surplices and gowns, and all those nursery doll dresses—men should put away childish things. . . . no creature looks more stupid than a dissenting preacher in a gown which is of no manner of use to him. I could laugh till I held my sides when I see our doctors in gowns and bands, puffed out with their silks, and touched up with their little bibs, . . . They must be weak folks indeed who want a man to dress like a woman before they can enjoy his sermon" —Charles Spurgeon

American Baptist Convention pastors may be more apt to wear them.
