I agree with the last option. I do vote for the best man for the job, it's just that 99% of the time that man is a Republican.

I agree with JohnAMac that our political views and affiliations should not be our identifying factor. What identifies us and binds us together is the Gospel -- not the fact that we are pro-life, pro low taxes, etc. Actually, politics divides us instead of uniting us.

In fact, it personally concerns me that the Church is so closely identified with the so called "Christian Right." Sometimes it seems that the "Christian Right" is neither Christian nor right. And while it may advance certain political views, it certainly does not advance the Gospel.

I find it refreshing that our church encourages its members to vote, but totally stays out of the political arena. I think that's the way it should be. On any given Sunday, you will still find a smattering of political bumper stickers on cars in the church parking lot - some supporting Kerry and others Bush.

 

In national elections, I'm pretty much a Republican. I don't always like what they stand for. I'm livid with their inaction on the border situation and with them ignoring public education for the poorest Americans. Public schools are a cesspool of sexual & political deviancy being poured into children's young minds. They know why America is always responsible evil and that God must never be spoken of on school grounds unless it is to profane His name, but they are not taught to read or do math. They are not taught about the great God-fearing men who started this nation. It's appalling.

But given the 2 party vote, at least they aren't
shoving special rights for homosexuals and abortion on demand like the mainstream national DNC leadership.

what's also driving my vote is that I'm also starting to find that the hardcore lefties are taking conbtrol of the national DNC, and it is becoming increasingly hostile to Christianity.

I've seen some anti-Religious Right complaints from the GOP from the likes of Christie Todd Whitman, but not in near the numbers and not nearly with the same sort of venom and hatred as I've heard from MoveOn.org or other Democrat front groups. Just look at the DNC message forum. It's chilling to see the hatred towards Christians by the hardcore leftists. And these are the people that fuel hatred and anger from people like Howard Dean against us. It got worse after we supposedly cost their man the election. They don't hide their anger now. They're ready to burn down our churches with us inside. They're just waiting for a leader to send them on their way.

There are still a lot of old school Zell Miller type Dems that run in local elections and even more among the rank & file. They are increasingly a silenced majority among that party. But they need to speak up for their party. They need to take it back from the hatemongers on the far left.

Nationally, I will continue to vote GOP or not vote at all if the GOP candidate is clearly incapable of leadership. Such as Ohio's two wimpy senators, who vote against common sense nearly daily & our dear ole crooked governor. Those three have done as much harm to our state's economoy as any out and out Communist could have done.

I'll add my dittoes to the 99% Republican comments, which is exactly the reason I quit identifying myself as an Independent, but rather as a Republican, a long time ago.

Being a southerner, many of us still are registered Democrats. It is just the way it is. And when it comes to local elections, it is preferred.

But when it comes to state or national races, we just might vote Republican if that candidate is the better of the two.

When can argue about whether it is Christian or not to go Democrat or Republican (or even third party candidates or independents). But is certainly Southern to officially be Democrat, at least on paper.

For me, it boils down to party platform. If their party is pro-abortion and pro-spending without cutting back, I'm agin it.

RebelBaptist, I've never hear that about being Southern, and I'm certainly Southern. My Dad was a Republican through and through. He voted Republican in every election, be it local or national; and, No, he was not rich. He was a tenant farmer and we were dirt poor.

I vote for who I think is best for the job in any election, although, most of the time I vote Republican.

As to the comment about "how do you know when they are lying" . . .

How can you tell when a politician is lying? See if their lips are moving. (LOL).

I tend to vote Republican most of the time, because for the most part it seems like Republicans support religious freedom, while Democrats support religious oppression. It is this--our religious freedom--that truly separates our country from all others.
