Christians and alcohol

I agree completely Helen. In fact I started this because of the Judiasers in the post that attacked you for a glass of wine on occasion, up in the Baptists only section.

Remember that Paul himself instructed Timothy to take a glass of wine for thy stomachs sake. Which says a couple things, at least to me. First that drinking some wine was OK at least (but I presume not limited to) medicinally, and 2, that the gift of healings had petered out by this time in Paul’s ministry.

A fight I don't know it seems like we are in more danger of a love fest here.
Like the others said don't get drunk. It causes bad hangovers amongst other things and oh yes the important thing God said don't get drunk.

I would think what's important to God is you don't loose control of yourself. Many non-Christian things can happen while under the influence and you can't use it as your excuse. He warned ya.

Leviticus 10:9 Do not drink wine nor strong drink, thou, nor thy sons with thee, when ye go into the tabernacle of the congregation, lest ye die: it shall be a statute for ever throughout your generations:

Now does this mean don't drink before Church?

Well, if we still had the tabernacle I guess that would be a problem, but seeing as the tabernacle is long gone...

The original question was "in ANY amount". The answer is no. If it had been stated as a small amount with dinner, or a single German beer, then I would have answered yes.

I know a Christian who is a recovering alcoholic. If anyone, ANYONE, offered him a drink in my presence, I would knock the drink from that persons hand and warn that person to back off. Once.

The kings couldnt use strong drink
"It is not for kings to drink wine; nor for princes strong drink; lest they drink, and forget the law, and pervert the judgment of any of the afflicted." Prov. 31:4, 5.

and the priests couldnt use strong drink
"And the Lord spake unto Aaron, saying, Do not drink wine nor strong drink, thou, nor thy sons with thee, when ye go into the tabernacle of the congregation, ...that ye may put difference between holy and unholy, and between unclean and clean." Lev. 10:8-10.

both because it would pervert their judgment.

and so I cant see why any Christian would want to drink something that would pervert THEIR judgment.

The verses would require being drunk. I don't forget things after a drink or two.

Well, then, if I were you, I likely would refrain from alcohol.

I'm not you.

"Look not thou upon the wine when it is red, when it giveth his color in the cup, when it moveth itself aright. At the last it biteth like a serpent, and stingeth like an adder." Prov. 23:31, 32

alcoholics become alcoholics because they start drinking alcohol. Nobody ever thinks they are going to become one.

Please quote the whole thought, not just the verse found in the concordance. The whole proverb goes like this.

Proverbs 23:29-35 29 Who has woe? Who has sorrow? Who has strife? Who has complaining? Who has wounds without cause? Who has redness of eyes? 30 Those who tarry long over wine; those who go to try mixed wine. 31 Do not look at wine when it is red, when it sparkles in the cup and goes down smoothly. 32 In the end it bites like a serpent and stings like an adder. 33 Your eyes will see strange things, and your heart utter perverse things. 34 You will be like one who lies down in the midst of the sea, like one who lies on the top of a mast. 35 "They struck me," you will say, "but I was not hurt; they beat me, but I did not feel it. When shall I awake? I must have another drink."
It asks the question who has these problems and it answers the drunk aka the one who tarries long over wine. It really doesn't have anything to do with the idea it won't happen to me.
