Having a hard time finding a church in Winston-Salem, NC (or surrounding areas) that has expository preaching as well as quality music.

    Any suggestions?

    Thanks.:null:

Not familiar with Winston Salem/High Point churches, but if yer willing to travel to Randleman, NC...

New Salem Baptist is a great Church with solid preaching and great music. Pastor is Philip Dean Talton.

His brother Jackie also pastors Calvary's Hill Baptist in Reidsville.

Also, Philip's uncle James Sweeney pastors New Hope Baptist in Level Cross.

    All three have excellent teaching/preaching.

you will have to add a little bit more clarity to what you mean by quality music.

To some on this board, quality music is the old time, traditional hymns, sung in the accompaniment of either a piano, a keyboard, a church organ, guitars, or such. No drums, no cymbals, no tambourines. Songs like "When I Survey the Wondrous Cross", or "Hallelujah, What A Savior", or "Victory in Jesus", you get the drift.

To some, quality music is singing both the old time, traditional hymns, BUT also contemporary music from contemporary singers accompanied by not just the piano and the organ or keyboard but the more modern trimmings like drums and cymbals. You know, stuff like you see in TV churches.

    Some compose their own songs.

To me, quality church music, preferably, is just solid plain acapella. If the church members know what their pitches are and can sing in parts, so much the better, if not, they can sing anyway they want, as long as their hearts accompany their singing. Songs like "Ninety and Nine", "We Shall Sleep But Not Forever", "Who Is On The Lord's Side", "There Is Coming A Day", "What Wondrous Love Is This", "Who Is God Except The Lord", and so on.

    So, that's it.

ps - mc director, one of the regular posters here, is from Winston-Salem, I think. You might want to try her church. could be a match for you. (Siiiggghhh !! D-o-u-b-l-e ssiigghh !! I wish I had seen the good old days that my older Baptist friends talk about, when they said you can walk into almost any Baptist church and your spirit settles in. You're at home.
Now there's this thing called matching the church to my taste. Signs of the times ?).

I am a native of Winston Salem and I have family there. Here are several churches that are committed to expository preaching. All have web-sites if you want to investigate them.

    Salem Baptist Church
    Twin-City Baptist Church
    Grace Bible Church

In the heart of the Bible belt, there are churches of all types in WS.

Just thought of another church whose pastor is a faithful expositor: Triad Baptist Church in Kernersville.

Bakers61/2 - You might try pming mcdirector[Bitsy]. She lives in the area and is an active member of a large church in Winston-Salem.

I think her church is SBC.
