We have church on Wednesdays! I did NOT know that, really! I've been going around thinking and saying our church had only Sunday morning and evening services. Last week I decided that I would start going to another church on Wednesdays since I missed the midweek prayer service I'm used to. I thought about it. I figured of course my church won't mind since they don't have one but I wondered if the church I would start going to only on Wednesdays would be upset that I only came on those days and wasn't a "member". I was kinda confused about what I should do.
Then in Sunday school we were talking about learning in church and who the services were directed to, and I had made a comment and someone brought up "that's one of the nice thing about the Wednesday prayer service.."
I stopped the whole discussion and it's true! They have Wednesday prayer services!
HOW did I not know this??? I showed them the bulletin and said "SEE? It's not even on here!" and they pointed it out. I could swear I asked before and was told there weren't any. LOL Whenever I join a church I try to make my first visit on Wednesday nights because that's usually when you meet most of the heart of the church. I remember I looked up their info and don't recall seeing a Wednesday one or I'd have gone their first.

Oh well, it's great news, and I've GOT to learn to pay more attention!
How many services does your church have a week? Do you go to them all, or would you like to?
Hey, there might just be more than you think! ;)

    FOR EVERYONE:
We have Sunday School, except on summer holidays (Easter, Memorial, Father, 4th of July & Labor Day). We have brunches and fellowship on those days.

We have 1 1/2 hour worship Sunday Morning.

    FOR SPECIAL GROUPS:
    We have Youth on Sunday
    We have Choir on Sunday
We have Small Groups - one every day of the week at varying times so that all might attend
We have AWANA from k4-12th grade on Wednesday, with prayer time for 30 minutes prior
We have Music Ministries on Thursday
We have Teen Youth Ministries on Saturday

    FOR SPECIAL OCCASIONS:
    We have Sunday Evening Singspirations
We cooperate with a number of other sister churches for special meetings, seminars (I am doing a Pesach Seder on the 17th)
We have lunches like for SS teachers or Awana workers, with training and emphasis on prayer time (always at least 30 minutes)

One may be as active as they desire. But one may be a "Sunday Morning only" type, too.

As long as they tithe . . .

Hey, we had one guy in a church who wasn't a member "tithing". He wanted to do it but didn't want to join or come was my understanding! He insisted he just wanted to tithe, so after making sure the guy understood that it would have absolutely no effect on his salvation he was allowed to send it in. Then he quit after a while and that was that.
Has anyone had anything like that happen in their church?

Gina; Did you know that a lost person can reap the same benefits from tithing as a saved person? I'm not talking salvation here. I'm talking about sowing in God's Kingdom.

Our church has regular Sunday morning and evening services as well as Wednesday night prayer meeting. We have Sunday School for all ages and Biddy, Children's, and Junior Church on Sundays.

Monday nights we have Faith Bible Institute.

Friday we have the Ladies "Caring Hearts" Soulwinning.

    Saturday we have "Leadership Training".

We have numerous ministries including a huge Mission ministry and a Bus ministry.

One unique thing we just started is the "Fishbowl Ministry". Ever get tired of reading those magazines at the doctors? We have gallon fishbowls filled with cassette tapes of the pastor's sermons. There is a card attached to each bowl saying, "Free, Take One! Listen..then pass it on...You will be blessed and so will they!" We place them in public places.

    Blessings,
    Sue

Gina, i don't want to be the one to stick a fork in it but let me ask you a question. Why did you join a church that you thought didn't have wednesday night services if that was what you were looking for in a church? Also my home church has:
    Sunday School 10:00 am
    Sunday Morning Worship: 11:00 am
    Sunday Night Worship: 6:00 pm
Wendnsday Night Pray Meeting: 7:00 pm

And unless i am deathly sick i go to all services that the church has....

One other thing for the CHURCHES that DO NOT have service on wednesday nights let me give you a verse of scripture, Hebrews 10:25 "Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching. KJV

I heard a preacher say this once:

People who go to church on Sunday mornings love the pastor.

People who go to church on Sunday night love the church.

People who go to church on Wednesday night love God!

What if your church met every day of the week from, say, 4:30pm - 10:00pm? Would you be required to go?

I do think it is crucial that a person attend church on a regular basis (at least weekly) if able to attend. God wants us to meet so we can be likeminded by learning together and serving together. It's important and obedient to attend regularly.

My church used to have Sunday evening services every Sunday. I did not attend to the dismay of several other "every time the doors of the church are open, you should be there" Christians. In my opinion, Sundays are not just a day for worship, but also rest. Sunday evening was my families time to rest and have fun. It is the one day that we all, normally, take a nap and then wake up and play games together, work on puzzles, watch a good family-oriented movie, etc. Raising 3 young kids 8 and under, our weekdays are filled with homework, soccer practices, Wednesday night service, and occasional ministry ministries of some sort. We aim to do nothing that is too tiring or stressful, but something aimed at helping us recreate and regenerate before another busy work/school week.

With most churches, you have 6 hours to do all that between services. And what better place could there be to be with your family than in the house of God?

J.C., yes sunday is a day of rest. however, if you shed all the daily husel and busel of daily life when you go to church, then going to church would be restful. church shouldn't be a choir or a job, we should want to go to church. The Psalm of David said "I was GLAD when they said unto me, let us go unto the house of the LORD." If we prepare right to go to church, then we will be GLAD to go to church. It's like one of my favorite songs "Feeling Mighty Fine" the 1st verse says "Well i woke up this morning feeling fine, i woke up with HEAVEN on my mind, i woke up with joy in my soul, for i KNEW MY LORD HAD CONTROL, well in knew i was walking in the light, cause i been on my knees i the night, and i prayed till the LORD gave a sign, and NOW I'M FEELING MIGHTY FINE. "This is the day that the LORD has made, and i will REJOICE and be GLAD in it.....

Sunday is the Lord's day and He will give you rest. Your logic could be used to justify going to car race instead of church (they always have those on Sunday), or fishing, or any number of activities that you don't have time for during the week.

When my kids were still at home, we did this every evening after supper. (Except on Wednesday nights or when our church was having revival).
We had nightly devotions and then we played games together and actually TALKED. You'd be surprised at how much family time you can have if you don't watch much TV.

    Blessings,
    Sue

I wasn't looking for a church with Wednesday night meetings in particular. I found when I started going that I missed it, but would have been happy going to another church on Wednesdays for it as long as they would have me. [IMG] So it's a pleasant suprise that this one does.
I'm new there btw, this isn't like I've been going for years and just discovered it.
I don't see anything on that verse on how often a church should meet. It seems the norm is one day of gathering together in scripture. If I wanted to say we should meet every day I could use that verse in the same way.
I don't go to church when I'm sick or when others are sick. My last small church taught that, and we were the sickest bunch of people you'd ever want to meet. LOL! Pass the flu, pass the cold, pass whatever you had, everyone had whatever anyone else brought in but HEY we were in church every time the doors were open! I think that's kinda ignorant, don't you? After I left that church the doctor even commented on how long it's been since he's seen us in his office. If you're sick keep it at home. Even the bible tells you when you're sick you keep to yourself until you're healed, so you could even say that it's immoral to go spread your germs.
I Am Blessed, I don't know about the blessings for unsaved people tithing. What do you mean? Can you explain a little more? That the church and heaven can still be blessed by it or the lost person or what? I do know that in the LDS church you're asked to tithe even while you're disfellowshipped, and when you leave they let you know your tithe is still welcome, even if you're not. LOL So to me I kinda look at it from that light, and throws a shadow on the thought of letting an unsaved person tithe. I'm very uncomfortable with it, but in that particular situation all was said and done to give the gospel message and let him know it would in no way effect his spiritual state per salvation so...guess that's fine! I still would have been quite hestitant though.

Gina, we are commanded to belong to a local "Bible Beliving Church." KJV. And this mess about staying out when others are sick, that is just an excuse to stay out and go to the lake or the golf couse or to the race. no offense to NASCAR fans. I am one myself, GO LITTLE "E". If you "Love God" then you will want to go to church "Everytime" the church doors open. I never said you have to go everytime. What i said was "you will WANT to go everytime the church doors open." So don't mis-quote me, read all the words. So unless I am dying or in the hospital I will be in my Father's House.

    GOD BLESS AMERICA

I once attended a church which expected us to be
there whenever the doors opened, for the 5 weekly
services (three on Sunday and two weekly), Sunday
school, prayer meeting (Saturday morning), choir
and orchestra practice, and for what they called
"round table," which was teacher's prep for
teaching Sunday school. Fortunately, I was a child,
or I would have been expected to be there with my
parents for retirement home meetings, street
meetings, and jail meetings as well. This was in the
'50s, and the people did all this, plus work for a
    living.

As I got older, the schedule lightened up, and we
went to two services on Sunday, Sunday school,
Wednesday night servce, choir and orchestra
practice, "round table," and two to three monthly
    meetings in retirement homes.

During my last years in that church, we had one
pastor who loved people, and he had several
outreaches going, other than the regular services,
but he knew how to delegate. Most of us loved
him dearly and were willing hands, pitching in
where he assigned us. We did a lot then but were
not overworked. We were carrying these
ministries completely on our own with just his
guidance, while he applied himself to the church
    itself.

He was removed from that church by certain, uh,
"powers," without the people's permission or okay,
and replaced by a man who stopped all the
ministries that the congregation was doing. We
went down to Sunday school, two Sunday
services, and a Wednesday night service. When
the activities director at a retirement home begged
me to organize weekly services there, he gave in
    -- reluctantly.

Some leaders overdo it, forgetting that people
have jobs and families. Some leaders see the
church as a job and do what they must to get by.
    And then, there are pastors . . . .

This is one of my pet peeves. [IMG] I have been in Baptist churches all my life and have seen people coughing their heads off and wiping noses constantly during the service, shaking hands with others, but praise God, they were in church! [IMG] lol I have really gotten tired of me and my kids getting sick from others in the church. I've finally gotten the courage to stay home when we are sick, even though there is no fever! I don't want to make others sick and I appreciate the same courtesy. [IMG]

I never said that you had to attend all the outreaches of the church. Only if you feel called to do those things should you attend. What i am talking about is the Sunday Morning Worship, Sunday Night Worship and Wednesday Night Prayer Meeting. And yes if your in the choir, you should go to choir practice. If you comment to doing something in the church you should fully commit. And if your a man you should go to Men's Fellowship, it's a good place for the men of the church to get together and talk church business if need be and fellowship with good food physically and spiritually and the sharing of God's Word. That goes for the laides as well if your church as ladies meetings. We need to get more involved with our churches and spread the gospel to this lost and dying world. We need to let our lights shine so others can see the way. Young People need to get involved in doing things in the church as far as visitation, and other programs set aside to spread the gospel of Christ. That is what we do as Christians, is tell others about him.

Well that one is my pet peeves :( People using there kids been sick to stay out of church. You finally got the "Courage" to stay out when your sick. Please if you had to get the "Courage" to stay out of church when sick then it must be bothering you to stay out. So go ahead and let Satan win his mind game and stay out of church. Then Satan will tear your family apart.

    ROFL. Are you for real?
I belong to a local bible believing church, and it's KJV. I didn't say I don't WANT to go every time the doors are open, but if they ain't open they ain't open! [IMG]
I didn't think I misquoted you, I've gone back through it and thought you said that if you're sick you'd still go unless you're on your deathbed, and being sick is an excuse. What part am I not getting? Are you saying you should still go to church unless you're deathly ill or not?

What i'm saying is don't stay out when you just have a head cold or sinus problems. Now if you have the flu or your really sick and you could give it to someone else then that is a legitmiate reason to stay home. However, it is not an excuse. There are NO "excuses" to stay out of church.

Where I go now, I do not attend even 1/4 of the
services offered. People have limitations at times,
and to go more would be devastating. I am there
from 10:30 a.m. until an hour after dark on
Saturdays and I have Monday and Thursday night
classes there. No, I don't attend the ladies'
retreats and get-togethers. (Additionally, I often
attend my husband's church on Sunday nights.)

I know that YOUR intention is not to cause "guilt
trips," but this is what happens when some say
that we should be there everytime the doors open.
8o) Some take it to heart and overtax themselves
and their families by putting the church ahead of
their families. My father did that, as well as my
mother, and the direct result was frustration which
directly resulted in abuse. Admittedly, the abuse
would have happened anyway, but there was more
because it only happened when Father was not
    home.

Over-involvement in church, obviously, will not
always lead to physical and emotional abuse in a
family, but it too often does lead to neglect, which
is abuse. Our families are our first ministries; the
    churches are second.

Additionally, too often, we think of church and
synagogue attendance as service to our God; it is
not. It is our God's service to us! Our service to
our God is only about 30% within the walls of a
church or synagogue; 70% should be outside
    those walls.

    Addressing the important issue first...
by christfollower55 ..... BOOOOOOOOO Go anyone else. Only half tongue in cheek, I won't cheer for an alcohol-sponsered car. And I guess I find it interesting that someone strict enough to be a KJV guy would..... no offense, just interesting. We all have our priorities.

To answer the original question, we have SS at 9:30, worship at 10:50, Chior and missionary prayer time 5:30, Sunday evening 6:30 and Wednesday evening at 7:00. We also have extended prayer once a month for women on sundays 3-5:30 and once a month for men on friday nights 10:30pm-1am and one Sat morning mens prayer breakfast each month. I am usually so beat on friday night I am long asleep by 10:30, but I usually hit the rest.
