I am not sure exactly where to ask this, but since I don't want to argue, this works for me.
How does your church deal with security...computer admin, personal information, networking, whatever else, and our newest problem, the copier.
I just found out our copier has the ability to keep copies of everything copied onto the hard drive. That feature is supposed to be turned off, but if it is on, anyone can come in and download everything. Employement records, tax information, personal correspondence, the list goes on. A deacon decided last week to bring in a tech to download the information for him. This deacon only notified one person, and only because if he didn't there is no reimbursement without notification. She called me, since I'm the church secretary. An added twist, this man is out to get rid of the pastor.
How do you control what happens when there is no one there to watch?

My first thought is to put a notice in the weekly church bulletin

A notice has gone in the bulletin already. Locks are being rekeyed.
I have been in this job for 2 months, and am floored at what people come in and take at night. They give an offering and feel they own everything in the church. I know it is a common attitude here, but it still floors me.
When I started we also got high speed internet, so security has become an issue. Computers and network are tightly controlled.
The last secretary worked at home because we couldn't afford internet at the church, so some of what's going on is new for us.

The office computer is password protected and behind a locked door while the wireless is encrypted. Our copier is too old to have that kind of document backup but it too is behind a locked door. Many people have keys to the door, though.

I'm sad to hear of the situation in your church. There's too much of that kind of stuff going on nowadays.
