    Are any of you on BB fans of classical music?

    If you are, I would love to hear from you.

    I started listening to it some 45 years ago and fell in love with it. My first exposure was with Bach's orchestral music. Since then I've branched out to Haydn, Beethoven, Mozart Shubert, Brahms & Dvorak.

    This is not to say that I don't enjoy other music. Hymns and some Praise & Worship are other genres that I enjoy.

    Classical is a favorite, along with traditional sacred, and the genre in which I learned to sing, barbershop harmony. My initial exposure to classical came in the 1950s (thank you, Warner Brothers cartoons!) However, my current strong interest began about 20 years ago, when I became better acquanted with Mr. Bach. In general, my preferred works were composed between 1700 and 1900, though there are many exceptions. However, the heavily dissonant music common during the past 100+ years is much less preferred.

    Went to a concert last Saturday and heard a good performance of Symphony No. 7 by Sibelius the other night.

    A beautiful concerto is the Chinese, Butterfly Lovers. It is one of my favorite pieces of music. Look it up on YouTube at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tu5XohUR3Pg

    This is a great performance on traditional Chinese instruments. The concerto runs a bit over 29 minutes.

    This is a Chinese Romeo and Juliet story and is considered one of four of the greatest Chinese folktales. The earliest record of this folk tale dated by to the Tang Dynasty ad 618–690 & 705–907.

    I forgot to mention another favorite: Handel.

    While he's probably best known for his sacred oratorios such as Messiah, he wrote many other orchestral works.

    His organ concertos are an excellent example of how he integrated what was once considered basically a solo-type instrument into one that could be accompanied by other orchestral instruments.

    Here's a bit of classical music trivia that actually appeared on a "Millers Analogy Test" that I had to take some 40 years ago as part of my acceptance into graduate school:

    Bach:symphonies::Beethoven:cantatas.

    Naturally this is correct since Bach never wrote an actual symphony and Beethoven never wrote an actual cantata.
