This is a quiz about wins and losses of college football teams and coaches. Consider yourself on the "honor system" to answer the questions to the best of your knowledge without looking up references.

Wow. Started to take it, but I have no idea which teams have .400 or .600 all time records, or which team who has been to 30+ bowls has the worst win %. It would not have been a poll, but a guessing session. And I thought I knew a little bit about college football [IMG] .

Too much for this boy ;) .

Okay, it's well taken that these are tough questions even for an 'expert' on college football history. But someone who is even a typical follower of CFB probably knows the basics, such as the team with the most wins, the team with most bowl appearances, et al.

So I will try to drop some hints where appropriate:

#2-- The team is #11 in all-time wins with 37 fewer wins than #10.

#3-- Error...the team called for was overlooked and is not an option. However, there is a correct answer within the options listed, and 2 of those listed do not have an all-time win % of less than .500.

#4-- He is also the one who coached the longest

#5-- The team had neither the best nor the worst record last year of the 4 options

#6-- The team has the least number of conference championships of the options listed

#7-- The team has not the most recent national championship of the 4 (all have => 1 NC), nor the most years since last NC without one.

#8-- The team has neither the most nor the least number of bowl appearances of the 4 options.

#9-- It's one of the 2 options which has never had a tie in a bowl game.

#10-- It's the team which is #3 of the 4 options in bowl appearances.

OK, I took the quiz. Wish I had noticed the hints first. How did I do?

Me too. Just took it with wild, absurd and counter-intuitive guesses (if it seemed obvious, I went the other way).

Will look foward to seeing the real answers.

In just 4 more weeks, late Saturday night will be the time the weeks' questions will have been 'answered' for wins and losses on college football's first full day, so this SAT night seems an appropriate time to post the answers to the quiz.

    College football quiz

    1. (question of honor)

    2. Which of the following 1A teams is not in the Top 10 for
    all-time wins?

    Penn State 761 wins
    Southern California 720 wins
    Georgia 683 wins
    Tennessee 747 wins

    3. Which 1A team has the most wins for a team with less than a .500
    win percentage?
    Cincinnati 501-524-51, .489
    Tulane 472-53-38, .472
    Baylor 505-491-43, .507
    Iowa 540-487-39, .525
*[But the correct answer should be Rutgers, at 562-573-42, .495]

    4. Among these top 10 coaches, which is the only one to have less
    than .700 win percentage?

    Glen “Pop” Warner .731
    Amos Alonzo Stagg .622
    Eddie Robinson .707
    Joe Paterno .746

    5. Which team, among 1A schools, has played in the most tie games?

    Wisconsin 53
    Vanderbilt 50
    Kansas 58
    Temple 52

    6. What is the only current 1A team which has an all-time win
    percentage of less than .400?

    Northwestern .431
    Kent State .393
    Indiana .426
    New Mexico State .443

    7. Which of the following teams has less than a .600 all-time win percentage?

    Georgia Tech .594
    Auburn .625
    LSU .633
    Colorado .615

    8. Which of the following 1A teams has the most all-time losses?

    Kansas State 571
    Wake Forest 566
    Rutgers 573
    Northwestern 591

    9. Of 1A teams which have played in 30+ bowl games, which has the
highest win % in these games?

    Oklahoma .618
    Penn State .649
    Southern California .651
    Georgia Tech .667

    10. Of 1A teams which have played in 30+ bowl games, which has the
lowest win % in these games?

    Ohio State .472
    Florida .438
    Texas .500
    Arkansas .368

To me, the 2 most interesting Q&A's are that no one (after 12 votes) got Northwestern as the 1A team with the most losses, and I was surprised myself that Georgia Tech has the best bowl win percentage of teams which have played in at least 30 of them. It probably can be explained by the fact that they have played in less major bowls than other teams with that many appearances, with so many Gators and Peaches.
