Which team has been college football's biggest surprise?

Which team has been the biggest disappointment?

Arkansas is the biggest disappointment for me. But hey...they didn't lose a game this week. :D

While a staunch Vol, I picked Louisville (one of my other favorite teams) because they have far and away the best talent in the Big East, yet can't do anything with it.

While the Vols are a disappointment, here in Rocky Top we are surprised at the hype we got in pre-season. Both our QBs were unproven, and Gerald Riggs had one good year after being in the dog house for on-field and academic difficulties. Add into that the fact that the Vols have the toughest schedule in the nation and you have the makings for a Big Orange meltdown.

It was hoped that the Vols' defense would carry them. But you can't overcome turnovers, freak plays, and bad calls, no matter how good your defense is.

What is it with Super Steve teams and the Vols? He beat them at Duke, with lesser talent and at Florida with top talent and now at S.C. with all most no talent. Yes he has also lost but most of the time his' teams win.

Disappointment? Can anyone say Syracuse? At 1-7, and no real prospects of another win, it looks like the Orangemen will have their worst records since 1948. I tried to watch but it's like watching replays of a train wreck.

Oklahoma State really let me down last night. Not a single point in the second half!

Will my Hokies ever get another national title shot?

It was a good first half, hamricba! If they had just ended the game then, Oklahoma State would have won. [IMG]

Nebraska has lost their powerhouse status and will probably never again be a contender, the nature of the sport has changed too much to that of being traditional and yet it still dosen't matter anymore.

Various ranking services rank strength of schedule and give different answers. Certainly Tennessee has a difficult schedule. So does Arkansas - Southern Cal, Alabama, Georgia, LSU, Auburn.

After Saturday, UT will have played 5 top ten teams (at the time of game: LSU, Fla, GA, ND, Bama), four of which were on the road. That's almost half the schedule. 6 or 7 teams on the 11 game schedule were in bowls last year.

I am sad that Coach Sanders (Off Coordinator) has resigned. The dismal offensive performance is not his fault. The Vols are one or two plays away from being 6-1, and the one loss to GA in that scenario was not out of question til late.

1999: Jamal Lewis slips on a crucial 4th and 1, turning the ball over for good.
2000: Jabar Gaffney's "catch" gave Spurrier his last win in Knoxville prior to Saturday.
2005: Arian Foster's "fumble" cost the vols a 2 possession lead. You could feel the game change at that very instant.

I would not say Spurrier has no talent at USC this year. Holtz didn't leave him empty handed. Still their talent is not better than UT's, though Tennessee is not the NFL farm-team we're accustomed to seeing (on offense, anyway).

    Here's another biggest disappointment:

I-AA: James Madison University, defending champions, returning most starters, and now with 4 losses almost certainly won't qualify for the playoffs.

    (Yes, I'm an alum.)

Yeah, that's what Houston Nutt generally says about Arkansas - "We were just one or two plays away" or "We're almost there".

Yeah. Arkansas was only 40-50 points away from giving USC a game this year. Tennessee's four losses are by a combined 26 points. Over half that total came vs. Georgia. The point? Wilhoit makes a field goal in each of those losses, and UT is 6-1.

Arkansas? Their 5 defeats have been by a combined margin of 88 points. Take away the USC blowout, and the remaining four losses are by 35 points. That's two possessions per loss in those games. Hardly a play or two away.

Arkansas did give GA all they wanted. I still can't believe Ark lost that game. How are the media and fans treating Nutt these days?

I"m in S.C. 6 times a week and on the radio before the season Spurrier kicked about 20 players off the team for breaking team rules and the law. Stealing laptops, and other things from the school, the use of drugs and a few other things. If I recall correctly about 15 would have been started this year. I believe he has kicked another 5 or 6 off team after season started. That didn't leave a lot.
He came into S.C. with a lot of the problems he came into Florida with, schoool in trouble for breaking NCAA rules before he got there.
I liked what he said after the game, God must have been smileing on us to beat UT, he knew they were not as good as UT.
Hope rest of season goes better for you UT folks.

Tennesse is a huge disappointment, remember what the Super Bowl winning coach John Madden says "when you have two quarterbacks you have no quarterbacks" Fulmer is showing that he is not a great head coach but rather an average head coach that relied largely on Cutcliff for the success of the past.

In the view of many, Tennessee can be redeemed by beating Notre Dame this Saturday. That would probably put ND out of the BCS, while if ND wins their last 3-- Navy, Syracuse, and @Stanford-- they will definitely be in top 12, which results in their unjustly being guaranateed a BCS birth. Few fans are neutral about ND, so most want them out of the BCS, where they would get that $13 million all to themselves. If TN can't do it, maybe Stanford can, with their propensity for upset, or near-upset.
