WELCOME ONE AND ALL TO THE

commonlogo.jpg

The only "RULE" here is NO fussin' - NO fightin' - NO feudin'!

I will try to be here to serve you; but if not, feel free to help yourself.

First one in every morning puts the coffee and tea on, last one out at night turns the lights off...

We serve donuts, cinnamon toast (dry toast available upon request), crumpets, bagels, scones, croissants, brioche rolls, donuts, yogurt, salads, light lunches, popsicles, ice cream, homemade cookies, homemade cakes, homemade pies, and homemade jams.

We also serve coffee (with/without caffeine), hot chocolate, hot tea, iced tea, fresh squeezed lemonade and orange juice, cappuccino, Mountain Dew, DP, DDP, Coke, Pepsi, Diet Sierra Mist, milk, milk shakes, Kool-Aid, and Carb Options.

If you don't see your drink or food of choice...just ask, we will do our best to stock it for you!

Our aim is to please...come and sit a spell, enjoy the fellowship and come back often!

As Christians, we are ALL on common ground...

Good morning all!

This is the day that the Lord hath made; let us rejoice and be glad in it!

Dan: I am VERY proud of you. I hope the 'new' Dan will be able to join us more often!

Barnabas: you are not a squirrel, nor are you squirrelly, but you DO hang out with some nuts once in awhile here on our beloved BB.

We are nearing our 100th Anniversary! Who would've thunk it, from our humble beginnings?!?

Preacher -

The first time that I read one of your posts talking about "BH", I thought that stood for "better half" and I thought you were talking about your wife!!!

I couldn't understand why you would call you wife a good "mouser"! But I was too embarrassed to ask you why!

Blessed Sunday Everyone!

Just having a quick cup of coffee this morning. Son got up early with me and is keeping me company. It is a beautiful morning here but quite chilly.

It's going to be a busy day here. Church this morning, getting the kids ready to go back to school tomorrow and Bible Drill starts tonight for Son(if he decides to do it). This is the first day of 8 weeks of constant activity. You may not see a lot of me for a while. I'll probably just get to stop in here in the mornings long enough to say hello and try to keep up with going ons.

My daily schedule will go something like this:

Sunday: Church at 9, Bible Drill at 5:30, usual household stuff in between.

Monday: School, karate

Tuesday: School, basketball

Wednesday: school, church

Thursday: school, gymnastics

Friday: school, basketball

Saturday: basketball(two hour games ranging in time from 9 am to 1 pm. design to use up the entire day), shopping.

Those are just the things I have to leave the house for, thankfully I'm just the driver for school. But at the house I have the 504 group to deal with(we have a lot of work to do), my own kids disability/school issues, and enough sewing to keep me busy forever.

So it is going to get hectic, but it won't last long.

Ya'll enjoy your Sunday.

G'mornin' folks!

A beautiful morning here in Mississippi Delta.

Won't be on a whole lot today. Going to Sunday School and Morning Worship,

Gotta do some studying this afternoon. I am to preach in the evening service.

Scarlett O...Actually my wife(Agee) says her & BH must be related...they both love the same NUT!!! And Thank You for the Sign!!

Sue..Would ya believe BH don't like DP. But I sure do!!! I use the empty 12 pack boxes to put in BH's cage for her nest box. Already has an opening in one end, & she always chews another in the other end for a "back" door!! Plus she has a flat place to lay & look out the window.

Preacher...we had a pet squirrel a few years ago. Her name was Opie. Best pet we ever had! We raised her from a baby with a bottle and everything. Sad ending to Opie--our cat got her.

That's just another reason I don't like cats!!! My step-son moved back in with us awhile back & brought his cat.The cat was an indoor cat, now it's an outdoor cat. But I stay right with BH when I take her outside.

Rather quiet around here this pm.

Everyone must be doing what my kids are all doing, sleeping! Yes all three, but it's not a miracle. All three are coming down with something. :( I'm hoping it's just a virus and they'll be better tomorrow, but by the look of Bitsy's throat, they might just have strep. Yuck!

Isn't it just the way it work? We haven't had anything worse than the sniffles for the last three weeks and now that they're supposed to start back to school in the morning they're all sick. Oh well, at least my doctor will love me. To bad she doesn't give group discounts.

Otherwise I am known within close family circles and friends as Jules [which I adopted in France, where I lived about 7 years - two of them with the US Army].

No, Bro. Dan, that time is behind us. Lenke and I moved out of Manhattan on August 31, 2005, my last official day at work. Thereafter, until the end of the year, I was retained by the company as an Advisor with full pay. Until our co-op apartment will be finished [it is hard to deal with contractors to finish anything on time], we are temporarily living in the parsonage of our church in Chappaqua, NY [where the Clintons live, in fact we have met former President Clinton a couple of times]. But as you have already surmised, as of January 1, 2006 I am officially retired.

Oops! Was I competing against a Squirrel?! Bro. Preacher! What kind of a game you are playing? Don't worry Lady Sue, the nuts and bolts are safe with me, I only go for a cool Dr Pepper!

Thankful

Congratulations on your retirement, Barnabas.

Please put in a good word about retirement to Ed!

Whisper or shout how great it is so he will retire. He has been considering it for a while and I think he is waiting until his son graduates or gets a job.

But would you please encourage him for me.

Time to leave for church.

Good evening, all!

Betty

It is good to see Brother Barnabas posting in here. I saw the one post with a pile of nuts in it, and I shan't tell you wot thoughts came to mind.

Ah retirement. One thing, we lose ALL our holidays when we retire. One day is the same as another. Eventually one marks the calendar to remind him of wot day is wot.

A lot of shops offer a senior's discount, but I notice that all the prices increased beforehand and I think they accounted for the senior's discount. I am still looking forward to when the government says all senior's income, on pension, will be tax free....Oh that will be........glory for me, on earth, of course..........retire Ed and enjoy a life of leisure........Hmmmmmmm

Cheers,

Jim

WOW! Thank you for noticing my scraping on the Common Ground Coffee House walls Sister Betty! Your are very sweet.

Yes, by all means Brother Ed, please do retire. But remember good old Samuel [the last of the Judges and the first of the Prophets], when he was called back from his retirement.... he was twice as busy as before. If you do not believe it, look it up in the Bible.

Brother Jim, what wisdom can you share with me who is fresh in this business of not getting up at a set hour in the morning? Hum, certainly there must be a golden age somewhere in retirement and not the same old grind I am subjected to ever since I thought I retired... ;)

Congrats on your retirement Barnabas J!

MK, we weren't sleeping.
We stayed for pizza after church. It was a small farewell for a member's daughter who is leaving on some type of mission training thingamajig. After that we came home, walked over to name the new chickens, and I stepped in doggy doo and spent the next 20 minutes walking around trying to wipe it off my shoe so I wouldn't have to actually get a cloth and wipe it, which I still have to do anyhow. EW

Preacher, I'm a non-disciminatory person. I have run over the same number of cats as I have squirrels in the last two months. :(
I'm really getting paranoid about driving at all! These things just LEAP in front of my vehicle. I broke myself of the sudden swerving habit to avoid them when I realized that it wasn't just me I was endangering by doing so, but my girls, so now I don't swerve for them, although I do my best to avoid them.

Congratulations Barnabas! I hope we can look forward to you dropping in more often!

I thought I retired when I quit the paper routes and the corner.

Now I'm raising a grandson and home schooling.

This is NOT retirement! No naps!

Thanks Lady Sue for the good wishes. I am afraid I wound up being like Samuel - more work after retirement. First, we have to finish alteration on the new apartment, scheduled meeting with contractors all the time and they missing their appointments.... Then we have to take care of things around the parsonage where we live, then visit with grandchildren, then clean the church, then taking Lenke shopping, then do a million other things, all along while I am battling with a three week old cold (finally over, thanks God!)... so, I often ask Lenke, when are we going to retire?!

By the way, I have to go to bed. I have already missed my curfew.... We have to get up early tomorow morning. Lenke is taking care of me.

I retired from pastoral duties in 96 due to health problems. I have not given up preaching though and preach whenever doors are open in my area. I preached tonight on Camouflage Christians.

My last day of work, official work was in October of 98. It felt wonderful to not have to get up and wait on a ride into work.

Since my retirement, my clock schedule has gone all outta whack. I may be up til 4 or 5 in the morning some nights, and other nights I may be snoring the wallpaper off the walls by 11pm. lol But I have a wonderful wife who keeps the same time schedule since she is retired as well.

Whatever time I lay my head down I am assured of one thing, the Lord promised in Psalm 127:2 that He gives His beloved sleep. Ah, the wonderful love of Jesus!

Blessings to ya, Brother Barnabas.

And Ed, go ahead and retire. There is a time when the Lord wants us to slow down and give our bodies a rest. After all, our bodies are His temple and we are to be faithful stewards of all that Christ gives us, including the body. Blessings, my Brother.
