    SINGAPORE has been voted the world's best city to visit in the latest annual survey by Conde Nast Traveller, an award-winning United States-based travel magazine.

    Readers of the publication's British edition, who did the voting, see it as the cleanest and easiest city to get around.

    The Republic catapulted from ninth spot last year to the top of the list."

    Here is the knock back to reality:

    In other words, only Brits voted?? No wonder Singapore looked so good compared to London or England (which did not make the top 10 in either category).

    Wonder what the Top 10 would be with USA voters?

    what are you trying to say, Dr. Bob? that singapore doesn't deserve the spot? [​IMG]

    That the brits would prefer "exotic" asian destinations, as compared to London? (Like, as a british traveller, would you think London as a "travel" destination???)

    Out of ten cities, only three are asian, and four are european (in Britain's own region.)

    Anyway, with a circulation of 83,000, this mag better know what they're talking about.

    "Methodology

    Every year since 1988, a select sample of Condé Nast Traveler subscribers have received the Poll of Consumer Attitudes. The complete 2003 poll was divided into eight questionnaires; no two versions were alike, and none contained the full complement of questions. Taken as a whole, the eight-part survey received 32,641 responses, which were collected and tabulated by Mediamark Research, Inc., of New York.

    Organization: Categories included in the poll (Cities, Hotels, etc.) are listed below, each with the criteria by which they were evaluated. Questionnaires were printed (or posted online) with lists of candidates (individual cities, hotels, etc.), including previous Readers' Choice Award winners; space was allowed for write-ins. Only candidates that received a required minimum number of responses were deemed eligible to be included in these rankings.

    Evaluation: Each candidate was rated, criterion by criterion, on a five-point scale: excellent, very good, good, fair, and poor. Final scores represent the percentage of excellent and very good ratings: e.g., Maui's 90.0 score means that, on average, 90 percent of the criteria received excellent or very good ratings in the Islands category.

    "Among international carriers, scores are up, which is good news for an industry that badly needs it. That Singapore Airlines (88.1) again takes the highest honors, almost across the board, is no surprise, although the fact that any airline—especially one specializing in the longest of all long hauls, the trans-Pacific and trans-Asian routes—would approach a score of 90 is worth noting. What may surprise is a newcomer to the list: Emirates (70.9), in fourth position, which no doubt helps with the success of Dubai as a destination."

    Right to be proud, Su. I wasn't taking shots at your locale, nor just the methodology by which the conclusions were reached.

    Just the sectarian and pedestrian limitation of respondents. 80,000 Brits do not reflect the real world. Sorry.

    Antebellum History. Beautiful Seaport. Seafood to die for. Houses (painted pastel in rows) that are unlike anything I've seen elsewhere. Gateway to the Low Country.

    Charleston, South Carolina, a city rich in history, tradition, and Southern culture finds nearly 4 million visitors a year as their destination of choice, which is no suprise after taking into account its reputation for outstanding accommodations, entertainment, and cuisine.
