Barbara Tuchman, in The March of Folly makes a good analysis of the kind of thinking displayed by Bush:

"Yes, we did everything wrong, but if we just do it a little more and a little harder, then it will work."

It's like the gambler who believes if he just had the money for one more go at the tables, he would be rich.

Giving him more money is not the answer.

Ron Paul is merely stating the Libertarian Party line that wants to bring back the isolation of the 1930s, which isolation did not keep the USA out of WW II, as you know. Isolation was a dead letter by September 1, 1939, when Hitler and Germany invaded Poland.

Once this country has entered a war, we need to win it. Speculation about an attack against Iran is beside the question because the first order of business is to obtain victory in Iraq. If Iran has the atomic bomb, clearly someone has to attack Iran before Iran attacks Israel or Europe.

As for the Libertarian Party's siding with the liberal Democrats against all wars, here is their political platform on the issue:

    "IV. Foreign Affairs
American foreign policy should seek an America at peace with the world and the defense -- against attack from abroad -- of the lives, liberty, and property of the American people on American soil. Provision of such defense must respect the individual rights of people everywhere.

The principle of non-intervention should guide relationships between governments. The United States government should return to the historic libertarian tradition of avoiding entangling alliances, abstaining totally from foreign quarrels and imperialist adventures, and recognizing the right to unrestricted trade, travel, and immigration."

    Too funny

Galatian, you should be assigned to read your posts as a punishment in purgatory. It is Roman Catholicism that approves of gambling as long as it does not threaten the well-being of the family--a sort of vague guideline since a billionaire could afford to throw away a million dollars under Roman Catholic thinking and it would not be a sin at all.

If the Roman Catholic Church were capable of reforming themselves, they would not endorse gambling. Actually the analogy about gambling could better apply to the failure of The Vatican to allow priests to marry so that the reign of the last 1,000 years of the Lavender Mafia terrorizing the altar boys could be brought to an end.

Catholicism under the late Pope, already almost a saint in the rock-star Hollywood system of The Vatican, has been against the USA in the war in Iraq since the very beginning. So it is no wonder that devout Catholics have attacked Bush's every move.

That is irrelevant to this thread. Ron Paul is a member of the Republican Party, not the Libertarian Party.

    1. Iran does not have an atomic bomb.

    2. There is no evidence that Iran is attempting to build an atomic bomb.

    3. Since North Korea already has an atomic bomb, do you advocate attacking North Korea immediately, cmg?

When did Ron Paul ever become a Republican? He still is an isolationist Libertarian. There are no isolationists in either party. A lot of people call themselves Republicans. Some of them are RINOs, some of them are sodomites calling themselves Log Cabin Republicans, some them are country-club Republicans, some of them are Wall Street Republicans, and then there are Main Street Republicans.

Ken, we know that Iran does not have the bomb because Jerusalem still stand at this time. Tell us something new.

How do you know that there is no evidence that Iran is trying to build the bomb? Did the Iranians tell you that?

I would not care if we attacked North Korea. North Korea is not a good example for you to use, Ken, since it is a product of cutting and running on the part of the Democrats. As Gen. MacArthur said at the time, there is no substitute for victory. Of course, your company might transfer you to the Middle East if we lose the war....

    1) He has been a Republican for many years. He is a real Republican - the kind that advocates and votes for limited, constitutional government.

    2) How do you know that there is evidence that Iran is trying to build a bomb? Where is your evidence?

Ron Paul is a Libertarian in his thinking. He advocates Libertarian isolationism as defined by their platform in 2006, which I cited and linked for you, Ken. He may be a nominal Republican in his district in order to be elected as no Libertarian ever wins any office. He certainly is out to lunch with his isolationism, as is his primary party.

You know what, Ken, all I know about Iran's plans is what I read in the newspapers. I think that secret intelligence will have to make that determination. The Democrats gutted the CIA under the leadership of Frank Church and made the agency useless. George W. Bush spent so much time answering Gore's false claim of victory that he failed to fire Democrat Tenet, who served the Democrat Party but not the United States of America as Bob Woodward points out in his book State of Denial part III.

Today's CIA is not Clinton's CIA. It is vital to the defense of the USA that we have good intelligence and we are now making the effort. However, it will take time to re-build after Frank Church, Jimmy Carter, the Democrat Congresses and Bill Clinton, playboy deluxe.

The point, Ken, is that I am not going to second-guess the US government for political reasons as the Democrats have done since they cut and ran in Viet Nam, leaving tens of thousands to be murdered by the communists. It is you yourself who has no idea what is going on in Iran, Ken.

    1) Good. So am I.

    2) Neither will I. I second guess it because it blew it on Iraq.
