I would like to find a website that offers movie reviews from a christian perspective. Is there such a thing?

    Thanks!

Certainly! There's a few out here. Here's one that gives good detail: http://www.christiananswers.net/spotlight/

This is a big subject for me. I won't watch movies with language, sexual situations, nudity, etc. As you can imagine, my choice of movies is very limited. So, I have gone to great lengths to figure out the best way to determine the content of movies before I watch them.

Christiananswers is OK if you are looking for a "review" of the movie. Do not rely on it to let you know if there is offensive content in it. It has rated movies as "better than average" (this is from a Christian perspective) when there are uses of the F word and g.d. Christiananswer's reviews are subjective reviews based upon a particular reviewers (who are volunteers) opinion on what is and what isn't acceptable content. I've really been shocked by some of the movies that get a decent "Christian" rating on there.

If you really want to know what's in a movie, head over to screenit.com. It will tell you detail by detail every single occurence of anything in the movie. You can't see the newest releases with screenit.com unless you are a paid member (but it's pretty cheap), but it's only about 2 weeks time that you can't see the newest releases.

Lastly, I highly recommend getting a DVD player called Clearplay. It filters not only language (it does this by muting), but also nudity, sexual scenes, violence, gore, etc (it does these by skipping past the video). The filtering is customizable, so if you are ok with violence or something you can let it through. The device is like 60 bucks, and then there is a monthly fee to be able to download the filters for the movies. In my opinion it is well worth it. It has opened up a whole world of movies that I otherwise would never have watched.

I'm pretty strict about the movies I watch. Dh is stricter than I. On the site mentioned above, I found it to be off from my own reviews of certain movies. I personally have no problem with Cars, but it didn't fare well at that site. On the other hand, Star Wars 3 was horrible, but it fared far better than I would have reviewed it. I think the site will be a good guide, but I don't think I would trust it.

The reason why this came up is because my oldest son (nearly 13) was bugging to watch The Pirates of the Caribbean. We didn't know anything about it, so I wanted to read about it from a conservative perspective. Let's say I'm not impressed so far.

"The Pirates of the Caribbean" has contact with the dead in it and other morbid themes.

This is from a site selling the movie:

This site, which I just found, reviews the Pirates movie "Curse of the Black Pearl" (is that the first Pirates movie?) and says to watch it cautiously. On the latest film, "At World's End," it gives a big "no" to seeing it. This is on the Pirates "Curse of the Black Pearl":

I find it odd, however, that they say all this about it but then still say it has some fun and good points. They don't give info for certain ages that I saw.

I commend you for being strict with what your children watch!

I don't guess we'll be watching it. Better safe than sorry.
