Conservative United Methodists Plan Breakaway Denomination
Conservative United Methodists have chosen a name for the denomination they plan to form if a proposal to split the United Methodist Church is successful: The Global Methodist Church.

The Global Methodist Church unveiled its new name, logo, and website on Monday, days after the United Methodist Church announced it was once again postponing the May 2020 meeting that was set to consider the proposal to split.
Calls to split one of the largest denominations in the United States have grown since a 2019 special session of the General Conference approved the so-called Traditional Plan strengthening its bans on the ordination and marriage of LGBTQ United Methodists.

At the time of the 2019 special session, Boyette’s WCA made clear it planned to split from the United Methodist Church if delegates to the special session had not approved Traditional Plan.

Well, good luck with splitting and keeping their property. They have a similar polity to The Episcopal Church and the courts have consistently sided with the synod, diocese or district that the churches wishing to withdraw from the denomination attempt to keep their buildings and assets. I hope them success. If I were in their situation, I would rather worship in a cornfield than adhere to the policies being rammed down the bible-believing parishes associated with the UMC.

I think you will find that not only will the conservatives keep their property, but they will also waltz off with $25 million from the UMC reserves. The ’Splainer: What happened at the United Methodist General Conference?

Thank you for posting this link. If I am not mistaken. This same plan was proposed at the last General Conference and because the African delegates, the liberals efforts were thwarted. If the UMC General Conference was just made up of delegates from the US, the LGBTQXYZ agenda would have easily been adopted. I think that is the reason that schism here in the U.S. is inevitable.

I do hope the conservatives get to keep their properties and now I do remember the 25 million proposal as part of the plan. The ELCA parishes that withdrew over the same issues had no problem keeping their properties because their polity is congregational. While the synod has a presiding bishop, each congregation can determine whether or not to remain in the ELCA synod. Many parishes have already withdrawn and kept their properties.

Maybe the UMC has learned from the very costly law-suites in the churches, diocese, and jurisdictions that have left The Episcopal Church, PCUSA, UCC and other liberal denominations over the 'gay issue' and found a way forward without the high cost of the courts.

There is no traditional church YET. That vote has not happened yet. However, churches can currently get out of the UMC with their property on issues related to human sexuality. I know because my church, who has wanted out for years for various reasons, did so two weeks ago.

But this "conservative" Methodist church will still have women pastors and infant baptism. How "conservative" are they really?
