Conspiracy believers should be going nuts over the east coast shut down

Yep, dem Republicans can do some remarkable things.
Common sense in the face of the most powerful storm in recorded history has nothing to do with this shutdown.

Naw, you are behind the times. Pat Robertson was steering hurricanes on TV back in the 80s. He sold the gift to Reagan, who passed it on to Bush.

My point was supposed to be . . . people who worry about the government imposing martial law like to picture it as troops going door to door. Americans have become so fearful of most everything that all it takes is a storm and a TV announcement and the public does what it is told. Seems to me that ordering people to leave their homes is demonstrating the same authority as ordering people to stay in their houses and imposing a curfew.

It seems people would rather hack on those who question the authority's motives than to talk about how conditioned they are to obey the authorities without question doesn't it?
It seems that some people have forgotten common sense. :saint:
If someone knocks on my door and tells me to get out because the woods behind my house are on fire, I'm going to leave. I don't care if they are wearing a uniform or a tee and shorts.
If the governor orders me to stay off the roads because they are covered with a thick coat of ice, I'm staying put. (I have totaled a vehicle on black ice.)
IMO, there's a big difference between this situation and a declaration of marshal law due to a political situation. Look how many have had to be rescued from their flooded homes because they didn't listen to the warning to leave.
I don't know about big cities, as I live near a 3 stop light town in a rural area. Around here, if I don't use common sense in a natural disaster situtation, I'm putting the lives of my friends and neighbors in jeopardy when they come to rescue me. I'm putting the lives of my family at risk if I don't use common sense instead of rebelling at "authority".
I can't speak for anyone else. I have a pretty good idea of the difference between common sense and being conditioned to act like sheep obeying herding dogs. In this context "self-reliance and independence" have meaning.
If you are going to hack on them then maybe you should not say such ridiculous things. When you go tof ar no one believes you.

OT, very excellent post. The one thing missing from many today is common sense. I have no sympathy for folks who decide to ride out the storm. In Hurricane Camille, 1969, I lived in Gulfport, MS. My grandparents had a house on the beach. We were told to evacuate, because most houses have a hard time standing up with a 26 foot storm surge and 200 mph winds. We did so, obviously, I am here. Well, about 10 miles down the beach, in Pass Christian, a group of 26 young adults decided to have a "hurricane party" after being told to leave numerous times. They were on the first floor of the apartment building. No doubt they were drunk when the winds and water hit. The first floor started filling up, they went to the second, then the third, then finally, on the fourth, the building collapsed. Twenty five people died that night. One, through God's grace, found a matress, and however he survived I do not know, but he was found atop a tree the next morning alive.
When idiots stay after being told to leave, they put themselves, their families and rescue crews in danger. Time that is spent getting them out no doubt could have been used to respond to real emergencies. Not to be cruel, but God gave us all a brain, and if that is your choice, whatever happens, good enough for you.
It might have been different before we had warning such as the Galveston hurricane in 1900. Today, there is no excuse.

OK, but you take off your shoes at the airport because the government tells you that someone is trying to bomb the plane? A person is thousands of times more likely to to be killed by a drunk driver than a terrorist but drunk driving is not a first offense felony in most jurisdictions. If you are not worried about drunk drivers then why are you worries about terrorists?

I don't take my shoes off at the airport because I am afraid that someone will bomb the plane.
I take my shoes off because that is the only way that they will let me board the plane.
I don't tilt at windmills - I deal with what I need to deal with to get the job done.

Right, sometimes I forget you folks can't handle the truth.
I agree with Oldtimer people have forgotten common sense. I live in tornado country so I keep a bug out bag handy and have at least one gas tank full at all times. Yeah I own two vehicles so that if one doesn't start I can jump into the other one.
I'm prepared should anything happen that I need to get of Dodge in a hurry. Are you? I don't need the government to tell me to get out of the way of storm. I have enough sense to do it all on my own and it'll only take me five minutes to do it.
If you have been following the situation and I have my doubts you'd know that "preppers" or those who prepare for the worst are now considered terrorists by the government. That tells me that the government wants people to be totally dependent on it instead of independent and self sufficient. The government doesn't want people with common sense it wants people who are afraid and will obey without thinking.
I also agree with Bill Wald. Americans are scared of their own shadows and would willingly give up their rights, their guns, and their homes and march off to the FEMA camps if so ordered. I imagine you and your flock will be among the first to arrive at a FEMA camp near you.
It's common sense to not rely on the media and the government to keep us safe and informed as both have failed us miserably.

obedience without question sounds more in line with your way of thinking than mine. :smilewinkgrin:
