The spinach was the kind you can buy in the fresh veggie section in presealed bags. It was contaminated by E.Coli. 1 death, 50 sick.

    Bluto did it.

This might be funny except my family eats quite a bit of this kind of spinach as salad greens. Not only, but I just carried a spinach salad 3 days ago to a family in my church who father had had surgery that day and who's mother is sick! I have not found this amusing at all!

    I am praying for them.

There has been at least one fatality.

We buy a big bag of baby spinach every weekend and eat on it all week. Ron was gone all week and I didn't break open last weekend's bag. I feel very fortunate.

Actually, the news said it was to be tossed and not cooked. I'm not certain why that is, but that's what was said on CNN this morning.

Getting rid of the e.coli depends on how the spinach is contaminated (unknown as of now). If it is simply a contamination of the leaves, then washing would work. But, if the bacteria was absorbed into the root system, washing would be ineffective.

Of course, they're being very cautious and conservative. Understandably.

I certainly didn't have a problem throwing a bag of spinach away. Just to be safe. . . .
