Continental Drifting

It is terrible when an entire continent drifts away from God. We are seeing it everywhere.

I think God created the world. The great flood filled in the low spots. From space, the west coast of Africa sort of looks like it might fit into the Gulf of Mexico, sort of.

Like all such theories, it is impossible to apply the scientific method, since it occurs so slowly, supposedly, we can’t measure it.

peace to you

It is not impossible to measure the movement of plate tectonics; it's done by GPS. It is slow, geologically speaking, but fast enough to measure.

I think a lot of geologic and geographic changes occurred shortly after the Flood, processes which soon slowed down greatly, leaving the continents much the same as we see them today. When we visited Iceland we saw where geologists state that the European and North American plates meet. The rock ledges on either side are drawing apart at about one centimeter annually.

I read once, in college I think, that the crust of the earth is equivalent to the skin on an apple. If true, I would view the continents as part of a core that doesn’t shift. The outer crust would be subject to forces that cause relatively small movements amongst the plates. If the continents shift, I would expect far more dramatic and devastating effects.

peace to you.

The geological structure of the Appalachian Mtns and the Mtns in Great Britain are very similar, including the coal deposits.

With no science to prove this, I suggest that God moved people, after the tower of Babel and then separated people by moving the earth. Notice how ziggurats are found in every continent. People had the same basic building concepts, yet were separated by continents.

Scientifically, there is no way that could have happened, based upon the movement of plate tectonics, which means there would have had to be a supernatural movement of land by God's providential design and purpose.

However, it is obvious that the land was all connected at one time, just as the languages were all one at one time.

Interesting theories?

More of a question that cannot be answered by science other than to say it took billions of years for the continents to move to their present locations.

Who knows how God moved the earth and set it's location. Only God knows. But the connection is fascinating.
