Conversion to Catholicism

Whoa nelly! Kadie bar the door!!! Every thumperer promoting every doctrine of man may just inundate you with circular reasoning and false dichotomies and ....guilt! If there wasn't a soul involved here it could be fun to watch, but I got to tell you: You are very brave to invite that kind of discussion. That could be an extremely heavy cross to bear. I just hope it can remain cordial. And above all GOD BLESS YOU IN YOUR TRAVELS!

My youngest son was raised a Missionary Baptist(ABA), with his grandpa being his pastor most of the time. Satan seduced him when he was 28yrs old & he now thinks he's an "apostolic".

The Bible is not quiet on these issues & there is much good info on the 'net to help you know what a mistake you'll be making. You will be in my prayers.

 

Label that one guilt.

 

In your heart of hearts, you must know it's a mistake, else you wouldn't be wrestling with it. There are some learned men of God on this Board who can help you understand the danger.

I am not prepared at this time to battle this one with you; but during my studying the Oneness/Jesus-only cult these past 4yrs to help my son, I have come across many horrible things about Catholicism. RUN!

 

My story repeating again? I hope so, as when I considered conversion to Catholicism, I took my thoughts to my friends, local Billy Graham's "Youth for christ" people, who did all they could to talk me out of it!

And all I had was a well-worn ole' Douay-Rheims Catholic bible to defend my positions!

That was my test!

I became a Catholic within about 3 months after that, in 1953!

Granny, bless your heart, but you sound like my now deceased mother, may God rest her soul.

In my youth, she told me, "Son, join any church you want to, but please, don't become a Catholic."

When I did, she denied ever saying that! She died a SdA, but I think God took her to her heavenly rest to be with Him in heaven, where I will join her soon.

It took over a year of very hard wrestling before I became a Baptist. Something inside me the whole time told me that it was wrong to become a Baptist and forsake my infant baptism. But after all that wrestling I became a Baptist anyway. Did I make the wrong decision?

I'm currently underway in my study of Catholicism. I've only been studing it in depth for about a year and a half (not very long) and am interested in talking to you. As I have been sifting through my own misconceptions of what the Church teaches and learning the truth, which is much different than what most protestant literature teaches, there are still many things that bother me, or at least, that I don't understand or haven't come to grips with.

These include:
1)Mary's place as the Queen of Heaven and co-meditrix(sp?) I'm down with all the other Mariam teachings.
2)The Nature of Grace in some of the Holy Sacraments
3)The communion of Saints (asking for intercession from those in heaven)
4)Venerating Relics
5)Infant Baptism (one of the sacraments i struggle with)
6)Papal Authority
7)Sacrafical nature of the Eucharist

That may seem like alot to most people, but it actually is a short list. I've compilled a list of 56 different doctrines that are commonly misunderstood by protestants and am actually writing a book on it right now.

I can't wait to say "WELCOME HOME" to you! I came into the Church just about 13 months ago (on the celebration of the Baptism of Our Lord) after a fretful year and a half of daily hardcore study, soul-searching and prayer. Fretful because my family was completely against it (at one point, forbidding it). But, all wounds heal with time...they're coming to town this weekend and I plan on inviting them to attend a Mass with me (they've never been); pray that they accept the invitation!

I'm an RCIA sponsor this year, having the great honor to be sponsoring one of my closest friends as she prepares to come into the Church, and I have the offer to be on the RCIA team next year, which I'm really looking forward to.

I am not trying to be unpleasant toward anyone, but you need to sit with a Bible believing pastor in your area, and discuss this important decision in your life and maybe in the lives of your children.

Do you want to try to get to Heaven on the basis of what the Roman Catholic Magisterium tells Catholics to believe, which includes the doctrines of men, {Purgatory, the Immaculate Conception, the Assumption of Mary into Heaven, Prayers for the Dead, and so on} or will you trust your never dying soul to the Bible, the Words coming from Jesus Christ.

If you trust your soul to the teachings of men then you will become a Catholic; if you wager your soul on Christ's truth, the Word of God, you will become a non-Catholic.

There are a couple of dominant reasons why I would never be a Catholic, and here they are:

Catholicism is a repudiation of what Jesus is telling us through the Apostle Paul in I Timothy 2:15. 'For there is one God, and one Mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus; who gave Himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time.'

You figure out Who is the one and only Mediator/Intercessor/Medium/Intermediary/Advocate {I John 2:1}Lawyer/Go-Between human beings and Almighty God.

Romanism believes that Mary is Co-Redemptrix with Christ. Count the churches in your neighboring communities and you will see on their church-boards in front of their churches mostly things about Mary. St. Mary's Church, the Immaculate Conception Church, Holy Rosary Church and so on. Way, way to much adoration goes to Mary, and last I heard, Jesus is God.

Christ is the foundation for our faith. Look up: I Corinthians 3:11; Isaiah 28:16; Genesis 49:24 {the Stone of Israel}; Psalms 118:22; Matthew 21:42; Matthew 16:18-'upon this Rock I will build My Church-refers to Jesus.

Catholicism requires that you leave your 'brain' on the steps of their churches before you go inside to learn what they demand that you inhale into your spiritual life. Their best theologian cannot stand up to the least of our renowned evangelical Protestant theologians.

 

I don't quite understand. You list yourself as a baptist but have been attending mass for years and now are quite positive you're joining the catholic denom.
What do you believe that still makes you call yourself a baptist at this point in time?
