Dr. Kevin Cosby, Louisville pastor on the board of SBTS's urban ministry center, shocked the Florida Southern Baptist Pastors Conference on Monday by claiming Jesus was xenophobic:

Florida Baptist Witness

“I hate to stir anyone’s theological sensibilities,” he said in the sermon. “I want to suggest something to you that might be disturbing. That is, based on this text [Matt. 15], Jesus was xenophobic.”
“I need not tell you what He called [this woman of another race]. . . .It begins with the letter b and it’s not Baptist. And Jesus called her that word.”
Cosby, who preaches widely across the Southern Baptist Convention, said he preached the same sermon once previously to an African American audience and it was well received.
“Tell them [pastors’ conference attendees] I’m very sorry and I’ll do a better job when I preach it the next time of clarifying that what I meant was that He was wrestling or tempted,” he said. “I really do believe that He was tempted in the area of race.”

For me the money quote that was most disturbing was

Cosby preached on Jesus’ encounter with a Canaanite woman in Matthew 15, asserting Jesus was “xenophobic,” having an irrational fear of people who were different than Him, but overcame His negative feelings about non-Jews with the woman’s help.

Even if he now covers his tracks by saying that Jesus was sinless, he still has to answer for the idea that Jesus had some irrational fears. We try so hard to be culturally relevant that we become biblically inaccurate.

Hmmm, let's see. The Creator of the Universe, who spoke the heavens into existence, has an irrational fear of one of his creations?

I always say I'm not surprised anymore when I hear men behind pulpits say and teach inane things....

....but then I get surprised all over again when I read things like this.

sad, just sad
With leaders like this its no wonder churches have issues. When trash is being fed to the ones who are supposed to be leading local churches what else would we get but more trash?
