Three questions: [Don't laugh at my ignorance of technology. Confused]

[1] My laptop is 15 years old. Windows 10 is now defunct. I want to buy a new laptop ..... like NEXT week. What, in your opinion, is a good one. Not necessarily a cheap one, although I'm not going to spend a fortune.

[2] Since I'll not be using this one anymore and my mother's desktop computer is older than mine and I need to let it die, too. Do I just put everything I want on a large thumb drive and set it aside and let it "die". I know to contact McAfee and tell them I no longer am using those computers and don't charge me again.

[3] If you were getting rid of a computer, what would you take off?

Anything else?

Keep/destroy your hard drive. And memory?
Can’t give you too much help on anything else.

I have HP, Dell and Toshiba. Current one is HP. Spend money on RAM. Get as much as you can. If you had one for 15 years and did not fill up the HD then 1TB should be enough for you for another 15 years.

I have an old HP 10 yrs old and Lenovo 9 yrs old that Both were win 10 but now run Win 11.

You can use Flyby 11 to allow your system to run Win 11. Did it with both of mine and they run like a charm. Although I did purchase a Lenovo Ideapad running Win 11.

Flyby 11.org
"Upgrade your Windows 10 machine to Windows 11 smoothly with Flyby11! Flyby11 revolutionizes how you interact with Windows 11. Our advanced optimization tool enhances performance, customizes your interface, and unlocks powerful features that make your system faster and more efficient."

There are a few options for how to handle your old laptop.

Take a look at this web site https://wwwDOTdiskgenius.com/resource/program-to-wipe-hard-drive.html

It lists various options on how to deal with the old HD.
