Could you have died yesterday?

I voted No. From my point of view yesterday morning it was indeed possible that I might die that day, but from God's point of view it was impossible because he knew that I would not. Now looking back on yesterday I can say that obviously it was not possible that I would have died yesterday because I did not die.

Tomorrow's another matter!

How can you have a poll that asks if the past is possible?

 

Well, you know, if there are alternate universes. . . Maybe I did die in 10,000 alternate universes yesterday!

 

Our freewill choices can determine the length of our life, for instance the bible says honor your father and your mother that your days might be long upon the earth. I believe this implys that we can lengthen our days by doing this.
Also God told Hezekiah that he was going to die and to set his house in order but Hezekiah prayed for more time and God granted him 15 more years.

Now, the flip side.. Did God know all these things? Did he know if we would honor our parents or not? Did he know Hezeikiah would pray for more time?
Sure he did. He has perfect foreknowledge.
From Gods point of view our days are determined. He knows what day we will die. From our point of view it is not.
We must remember that God is outside of time and not bound by it. We are.

 

Yes, I could have legitimately died yesterday!

Did I die yesterday? Absolutely not! The evidence is that I am alive today. But I may not be able to say that tomorrow, because I might die today There's still about 5 hours left of today on the West coast.

That doesn't mean that God established that yesterday was not my day to die. It means that in the grander scheme God has allowed me, in accordance with his universal and Unilateral grace, to continue to live.

Is God in Control? in the broader sense yes, in the finite minutest sense no, not until he wants to be!

If God were in Control, in the minutest and strictest sense, He would never allow me to sin even the tiniest white lie, because the penalty for such is death! But my gracious, even prominent godly men called pastors sin, and continue to live life. So is God in control? Yep! Is God in strict control?, NOPE!

 

Well since we haven't engaged in revelation, how can you call me a deist? I have not denied revelation.

What is revelation to you? Is it not the revealing of something hidden or not before known?

When God reveals himself in Scripture is that not revelation?

I think you simply enjoy your ability to label people!

 

This is tough. The Bible shows us that Satan has to ask for permission to test us as he tested Simon and Job.

If Satan tempts a woman into sexual sin and she gets cervical cancer from that affair and dies, did God cause the death, desire that death or just allow that death because of the woman's walking outside of HIS will for her life?

If a person drives drunk or uses drugs, did God plan that death and ruined, wasted life, or did God's master plan include great things if only this person were to yield to HIS calling in their lives?

Does God allow Satan to take the lives of homosexuals? God 'gives them over' to a reprobate mind and says in His word they are worthy of death (spiritual AND physical).

Could I have died yesterday? Only if it were my God appointed time. If I were living life 'on the edge', I believe I could die an early death brought on by my own worldly and sinful choices, allowed by but not caused by my Heavenly Father.

It's funny you should bring this subject up. Another person and I just had a lengthy discussion about this.

Well, anyway, I say that everyone has a definite appointed time (to the second) to die. If it's meant to be then it shall be.

If you don't take the plane because you might die in a plane crash: I say if you take the train instead then you're gonna die in a train wreck or maybe get run over by a car crossing the road going to catch the train or maybe even run over by the train or have a heart attack.. and on and on...you get the point.

 

Whew! I normally pass this forum up but saw the title to this post and just had to find out if I could have died yesterday. I mean, my wife never tells me anything.

 

I could have died yesterday. I could have been born today. I could be existing in some computer memory. The universe could be a holodeck.

 

Actually, I think I'd like to change my thoughts on this.

I wasn't everywhere I could be yesterday, so I may have missed the place where my death could have occured. As for tomorrow, I cannot even see tomorrow because every time I awake from sleep, it is today. Everywhere I Go, it's today.

 

I could have, I believe. If I really wanted to, I could have committed suicide.

 

I dont consider that overpowering God, but exercising my free will. I could light up a cigarette right now if I wanted, or throw a brick into the tv, too.
