Count of Monte Cristo

So-so. The book is much better.

 

It is a good action movie, but is kind of short on substance. That dosn't mean I didn't enjoy the movie. It just means I am picky when they make a movie from my favorite book.

As Deacon noted above the book is much better.

Dear Ones in Christ;

I have been a fan of Dumas and his "Count of Monte Christo", as a book which rates very high on my list. I have seen both the current movie version, and the one from several years ago, starring Richard Chamberlain. This current version is far superior, and closer to the characterization, although still far short of the true depth of character.

The kidnapping, of Mercedes' son in Rome was well done, but would have been more relevant if it had pre-ceded the appearing of the Count on the Paris scene, as it did in the book. Portraying the young Mondago as both the son of Mercedes and Edmund was a marvelous twist, and allowed the two to reunite their love, which made for a happier ending, then as originally written.

I wish that they had portrayed greater assistance to the Ship's owner Morreil, and his family, as was written, in the book. Also a more subtle destruction of the honor and substance of the enemies of Edmund would have been savored, but time constraints, and character developement are restricted, in the movies.

It was a marvelous movie, and very well presented.

I too really liked the movie. I own very few movies, but we bought this one.

I thought the movie was good. Not great, but good. Now the book, OTOH, is great reading.

 

I loved the new version of the movie. The actors were really good in it. I also own it.
