Since you are able to add two flags to your profile, how about state flags for the Americans?
My family has been in-country long enough that a German flag is not really relevant, but the State flag would be.

 

Just a question--
are we allowed to use a flag even if we are not from the country, because maybe we have a heart for that country or want to do missions there?

I think there ought to be a confederate flag to chose from, because I'm seeing a lot of Scottish flags from self-professed Southerners and I think they choose the Scottish flag because it vaguely resembles the confederate flag. Having the confed flag would clear up a lot of confusion (although I would never chose it myself because it symbolises a lot of ugly things to me).

I think this is a great idea, as sometimes you need to know where a person is to respond appropriately. I am British, living in the US so would kind of like to have both flags, but I am very new here so I don't want to create any more work for anyone!

The state flags may be a little confusing as international members probably won't know what they are. I certainly wouldn't recognise any besides Maryland! Is there any way they could have the state abbreviation written on them?

 

I had the Scottish flag briefly too, since I have some Scottish blood through my Father's Father's family, but decided to go stars and stripes since that connection seemed a little tenuous.

I'm sorry if you felt like I was accusing you of confusing flags, I'm not really accusing anyone of that because I don't know who is or isn't Scottish (or of Scottish heritage)... but statistically speaking it seams interesting the shear number of people with "the South" or "CSA" in their location field who also have the Scottish flag for their avatar...

I see your and Webmaster's point about not adding it though, since the CSA is a dead country (thank goodness!) You may as well add flags for Prussia and the Ottoman Empire if you're going to go that route...

Howdy boys! I chose the Flag of Andrew because it is the forerunner for the Believer's Banner aka the Southern Cross or the Confederate Battle Flag!

This flag is a symbol of faith, courage and liberty. It has deep roots in faith, Andrew being one of Jesus' disciples who died a Christian martyr. This is why it was adopted by the Confederate States of America. In the 1800's about 75% of the Southerners were either Scots or Scot-Irish. (This is my blood-line too).

The Confederate Battle Flag/Southern Cross~ Believer's Banner, was adopted consciously, purposefully, deliberately and premeditatedly in order to display faith in the sovereign God of heaven and earth; faith in the providence of that God, the God of history and the God of salvation.

The South chose a Christian Ensign for their Battle Flag because the Confederacy was a Christian Republic. In fact, it was the ONLY Republic in history with a Constitution that directly recognized the sovereignty of God. " Deo Vindice"

 

I'm surprised that I haven't seen any Texans on this board who think Texas is an independent country

 

If Austin moved to become the Repubic of Texas again a lot of folks would vote in that direction and I would expect a large immigration board needed to process all the would be Texans. It might be the last bastion of Conservatism left.

Yes, the Scottish flag is the forerunner of the Cross of St. Andrew. A lot of Scots in the South in those days and now so it might not be a CSA thing. That is an assumption on the part of some.

Look at it this way, I could choose the German flag as well since my forebears came from there so that would be a heritage thing. While the CSA is no longer a country it is a heritage thing for Southerners. Choose the Bonnie Blue or the Stars and Bars if the Southern Cross bugs some folks though today where I work I saw a Black man (an employee) wearing a Tommy Hillbilly cap that bore the Battle Flag. One of my other Black co-workers calls it the Dixie flag or the good ole boy flag. He said that neither King nor Malcom X worried about it so why should anyone else? Only the misinformed and the uninformed have a problem with that flag. Even in Chechnya (spelling) the underdogs flew it as a sign of freedom fighters fighting for the lost cause though a just cause. No one overseas has any problem with it only some folks here who have better things to do, but they don't do them instead they stir up strife while pleading for tolerance. Leftists are like that, yes they are.

Besides most of us would probably choose our state flag since we are strong states' rights folks.

 

I may be misinformed and/or uninformed, but I know the confed flag harkens back to the bad old days of slavery and lynchings for many people, especially people of color. These days, it's more closely affiliated with the Klu Klux Klan than some intellectual idea of federalism/states rights. Whatever else it is and was, it has become a symbol of racism. Which isn't to say that's its only meaning, I have a good friend with a confed flag on his car, but I personally think its time to move on from that chapter of history.

I chose the US flag because this is where I live, though there are two or three of us who are Filipinos. Sure would be nice if we could have the Philippine flag avatar, but if not....
