Syrian immigrant wins right to jury trial in case against Tulsa church
"Tuesday, the Oklahoma Supreme Court reversed a June 2017 Tulsa County District Court decision that ruled against the immigrant and in favor of First Presbyterian Church"
"his baptism was published on the internet even though he was assured that his participation in the Christian ritual would not be made public. The man said he had explained to church members that publicizing his baptism, a signal that he had converted from Islam to Christianity, could place him in danger....he returned to his native Syria shortly after his baptism and he was kidnapped and tortured by radical Muslims who read about his baptism on the internet."
"District Court Judge Daman H. Cantrell sided with the church, which had asked the court to dismiss the case on the basis that the courts lacked jurisdiction to hear the claim because it involves a religious matter. The Oklahoma Supreme Court on Tuesday overturned Cantrell's ruling"
