One fantasy author was influenced by another fantasy author? Shock! Horror! Grief! What a travesty! Dig up Lewis' bones and burn him at the stake! Burn him! BURN HIM!

Occult, yeah whatever. I've read many CS Lewis writings, and they've all been great reading. If that makes me an occultist, then shoot me. Just agree leave me alone afterwards.

Ok, the usual peanut gallery has weighed in. Does anyone want to tackle these accusations seriously now?

Talk about the nut calling the gallery black...
There is no seriousness in the accusation. In fact, the hilarity and incredulity of the accusation are copious.

    Boanerges -

I'll thank you to take back the rude and irresponsible assumption that I am just a "usual peanut" and part of the gallery. I happen to think of myself as an "unusually adept and gracious peanut" and certainly not part of any gallery I know of.

Oh, I still think your OP is ridiculous, btw. The fact that someone put these assertions on the web is dumb. The fact that you reposted them here, thus reawakening an issue that had (kinda) gone away, proves that you can't just let it go that some of us like Lewis' writings... and don't think he's occultic in nature.

Oh well, no matter what is said from here on out, just know that I am probably not going to change my opinion, and I recognize that you aren't either. So, have a great discussion (also known as bashing) of Lewis' works and beliefs. I guess you can debate and ask all you want of him in Heaven... if you can get a word in edge-wise while we're all praising God around the throne. See ya!

I've not read MacDonald, but I may look into it, if he writes similar to Lewis. Incidentally, any word on Prince Caspian's release date?

JR, when Disney greenlit Prince Caspian, they were anticipating a Dec 2007 release. To date, that's still the target date.

Coolness... that gives me time to leave the book alone for awhile before I pick it up again. Currently reading the last "Left Behind" (thought I'd better finish at least) and I'm now reading "The Book of Romance" and "The Ragamuffin Gospel". Maybe I shouldn't have told everyone... now I'll be grenaded for those titles!

MacDonald's books are more childish than the Chronicles of Narnia, and less obviously Christian themed, but cram-jammed with virtue. My favorite is The Princess and the Goblin, but I also like The Princess and Curdie and At the Back of the North Wind.

These books are very old and now public domain, so you can probably find them all online.

Or, at least, a great number of them. Macdonald has his own vanity domain, which contains, or links to, many of his works: fiction, non-fiction, and poetry.

One of the last courses I took in school was in late Victorian literature. One of the high points of the class was the week we studied Macdonald's Phantastes.

    Josh Rhodes,

How are you so sure Lewis will be in heaven to ask him anything? I'm not saying he won't but I can't say that he will either. I'm not the Lord.
BTW, I have alot few of Lewis's works. I mean hey he is interesting reading but I can name 10 more people I would rather read before getting to his stuff.
I mean so some folk don't like Lewis. Big deal. His writings aren't inspired. Maybe some of yall like him a little to much. I mean so what Disney is doing Prince Caspian. Yall sound like little kids waiting for the next Star Wars movies and action figures to come out.
"The Left Behind Series". Please! I sat down for a few minutes one day in the bookstore and read about 50 pages in one of those books. I'm a pretrib guy and also a believer in the rapture but those books are like dime store fiction. Too much sensationalism of the book of Revelation in my opinion. If only people could read their Bibles as much as they do this christian self help books and christian fiction and fantasy and all that other stuff. (Not saying you don't read yours).
Why did Lewis have to have his last rites read to him by a priest? Why did he often times go to confession?

Shannon, C.S. Lewis was Anglican, a denomination which mixes certain aspects of Catholicism and Protestant worship.

That's right, neither of us are the Lord. I assume that Lewis is a Christian, giving him "the benefit of the doubt" because he said he was. This is the same thing I do for you (because I don't know you, or even someone I do know that doesn't always exhibit the model Christian behavior). I look forward to worshipping with all of you in heaven!

True, and I'll agree that he's not always at the top of my list. I'm just re-reading some of his works.

[IMG] Not hardly. I didn't dress up like Darth or Aslan when I went to see the movies! [IMG] I was just interested to know if they were indeed going ahead with the series to movies.

I agree. But since I started, I thought I'd finish. Just finishing a series that will close the book (no pun intended) forever for me.

Thanks for not assuming that I don't. (I do, but that's not the point.) I agree that on the whole people don't read enough Bible. I read it for entertainment and when I read a book on Christian living (such as "The Book of Romance" for example) I have my Bible open (to the Song of Solomon, in this example) to position the two against each other.

Can't answer this. But it's my view that if He was a Christian as he asserted, these things don't negate his salvation. Just my humble opinion. Thanks, shannon, for keeping your head in your response! See you in heaven if not before, ok?

Just as piece of information, George MacDonald was a universalist. Not saying no one should read his books, so please refrain from false assumptions. (See, I have to pre-defend myself around here).
