Trump withdraws WH invitation to Golden State Warriors | Daily Mail Online

After Steph Curry snubs Trump's invite of the Warriors to the WH, President Trump did the right thing and uninvited the entire team! I say, "Good for him!: It is an honor and a privilege to be able to visit the WH, regardless of your political leaning beliefs and party loyalty. Even when Obama was in the WH, if he invited me to visit, I would have gone and been respectful, even though I didn't necessarily like him!

Did Trump do the right thing? What say you???

Why do Presidents invite Pro reams anyway? Always seemed stupid to me.

Sometimes they invite college teams. Is that just as stupid?
And who else is it stupid to invite? That muzzlum kid and his clock ought to qualify.

I remember I was surprised when Arnold Palmer died that it wasn't brought up (that I saw) how he accepted presidential invitations from Republicans, and even partnered with Ford in a few tournaments, but he tuned them down from Democrats.

What I want to know is why are high school and college sports teams invited, but the little girl who won the spelling bee, or was on Dean's List every quarter for 4 years doesn't seem to get invited.

Do we really honor physical agility over academic achievement?

There is an old saying, "You get what you honor."

Nobody consulted me, so I don't know for sure. It might be a worthwhile guess that championship sports teams get more publicity and notice, so there's more association with winning.

Why does Trump want to pick a fight at every opportunity? Because it plays to his "base." The truth is that he's hurt that someone doesn't think it's a great honor to meet with him and have a photo op. They don't need it because their approval ratings are higher than his. Must be galling.

That is probably true, but I guess I just have a vastly different definition of "winning."

That reminds me of something years ago, but I can't find any reference for it. It must have been in 2000 or 2001 that one of the college football magazines had an article entitled something like "Who Were the Real Winners in 1980?" 20 years after Georgia and Herschel Walker won the national championship, it compared the players of that team with the 'worst' college football team in 1A, Northwestern, which was then in the middle of its record-breaking 34 game losing streak. So many Georgia players had failed to graduate, some were in prison, and some working menial jobs. Few had a lot of success in professional football-- Walker left school early to sign on with Donald Trump's New Jersey Generals, then went to the Dallas Cowboys after the USFL folded, and he was most noted for his reputation and that multi-player multi-draft pick trade to Minnesota, which propelled Dallas to 3 Super Bowl trophies and did very little for Minnesota. But among the players for the small, private, highly academic Northwestern U, the graduation rate was almost 100%, and there were successful executives, lawyers, surgeons, et al, in their 2-deep roster.

I don't remember if the Georgia team was invited to the White House (if so, it must have been after Reagan took office), but it would seem Northwestern surely wasn't invited to celebrate "losing." Yet, as the article asked, just who were the real rwinners between the best and the worst teams of 1980?

Trump's economic council disbands itself. One hour later Trump announces he is eliminating the council.

All members of Trump's artistic council quit. A couple hours later Trump disbands the council.

Stephen Curry says he's not going to the White House. A couple hours later Trump says the team is disinvited.

I'm sensing a pattern here...

Funny, though, that there have always been players that did not make the White House visit for one reason or another, but it's only "news" if they don't go when a Republican is in office.

Other Presidents, either Democrats or Republicans, do not disinvite people in public when they learn they aren't coming. That makes it news.

Maybe he's mad that Steph has higher approval ratings than he does ...

When both sides of an argument have surrendered their moral high ground, the only thing left to argue over is who's the bigger hypocrite.

Yes, Curry probable was first to race to the bottom, but Trump didn't have to follow him. That again is proof of when I said "Character matters" when picking a person for higher office. Character always comes out eventually.

Well, yes. I have no great expectations that a professional athlete will behave himself. I used to have expectations that a president of the United States would keep out of silly public arguments and playground drama. No more.

Why do people disrespect President Trump and the Office of the President at every opportunity? Seems like Mr. Curry started it all and this particular president responds in kind.

There you go. Playground rules justify the boorish behavior of a person who forfeited being the new leader of the free world.

The President doesn't have to respond. He's the PRESIDENT. But Trump's ego is so fragile he can't stand rejection so he was compelled to answer.

I like that he did it. Sue me. He shouldn't invite any team over. Invite the individual players who aren't using him to bring themselves attention and do it privately.
