Dan 2:21- do you believe it?

"It is He who changes the times and the epochs; He removes kings and establishes kings; He gives wisdom to wise men And knowledge to men of understanding."

The Calvinist can find comfort this morning because he believes that this is part of God's good plan.

He is content not to understand it- but to just believe it.

The Calvinist says, "This is not just something that God is going to work out one day- this is ITSELF ordained by God in eternity past for our good."

Even the wisdom of wise men comes from him. They do not conjure it up contracausally. He gives it.

We can agree on this, and yes, find comfort....I am going to assume that by mentioning Calvinism, you didn't specifically intend to necessarily exclude Arms and other non-Cals because I think we can all agree with this OP and indeed find comfort in God's will being done in all things.

I believe the Bible as it says, every good gift comes from God. I do not believe the rewrite that claims every gift, good or bad comes from God.

Now a majority of Americans are feeling good this morning, their guy won.

Neither guy was my guy. I could no more vote for a Mormon that an Islamic. I decided that whom ever God gives the Job to I have to respect God's choice. Besides where I live there were voters complaining about the voting machines that were clearly ringing up for Obama regardless of who else you might have chosen.

Hopefully Obama did not win because Christians were unwilling to choose between the lesser of two weavels. :)

Everything that comes to pass, was/is part of His plan. Nothing we can do will stop it. They thought that by crucifying Jesus, they were doing God's work/desire. Indeed they were/did, but not the way they were doing it.

Well, Calvinists may be claiming Dan 2 for comfort on this disappointing day for our country, but not me.

I'm claiming, Psalm 109:8, "May his days be few; may another take his office!"

If you believe Dan 2:21 (which I do) then it would apprear that a general judgement is right around the corner. To draw comparisons with the Israelites of Daniels time, the sin of the people being great and yet the people didn't care, they didn't listen to the prophets and killed them.

This is what I believe is happening to us. Those who fear that our Lord is running out of patience with us are being laughed at. The left in this country see our great sin as being the exploiting natural resources and limiting (what we know to be) ungodly social behavor. The right sees abortion and theft of personal property and a lack of responsibility as the vice. But we don't have to have a born again Christian president to have a society that respects life and personal freedoms. Romney while not perfect stand heads and sholders above the current president in this regard.

I personally think we have prospered as a nation because of our Biblical principals, not our Biblical behavor. We have neither principal or behavor anymore. I hate to say it but I see nothing but dark clouds on the horizon, we are begging God to act and I think he is going to do just that. Still, the prophets words do comfort as do Isaiah ch 31. I cannot control my neighbor but I can control myself and I can live my life for the Lord as a witness and if that means I suffer so be it.

Hi Van;
The lessor of two evils is still evil. There are not two kinds of evil only one kind and it's still evil. Because I could not with a clear conscience chose evil does not mean that I am responsible for Obama retaining his position.
Politics is a dirty bussiness always has been. Those who are not pleased with it's out come always look for someone to blame,

Yes, I think it does. I think it is quite silly to argue otherwise.

"Just because a few million of us didn't vote for Romney because we don't like him doesn't mean that we are the reason Obama got re-elected!"

That's utterly ridiculous!

Of course it does!

A no-vote has exactly the same consequences and bears exactly the same responsibility as a vote.

You might as well argue that water is not wet as make such a ridiculous statement as you make here.

Sure it is. Until evil is no more that is the reality in which we live. It is not noble to refuse to choose between two evils. It is not good to lack the courage to make tough decisions.

If a man breaks into my home and threatens the lives of my family I will shoot him and kill him if I can.

I am presented with two options- both are terrible.

But maturity and courage requires one to make a choice between the two options.

To not choose is to choose to let my family die.

That's life.
