This is a different author than Benedict, but in line with the initial post I think.

John The Baptist was also the forerunner of Jesus Christ... He was sent into the world to baptise... That was his mission... Repent ye for the kingdom of heaven is at hand!... He had a greater mission than that where all are baptised into... He baptised the Lamb of God that taketh away the sins of the world of his children only... None others are even considered.

The interesting parallel is this that the mode of John's baptism... He being the proper authority by where all valid baptism are measured brings one to the church militant... Whereas the baptism administered by Jesus Christ by the Holy Ghost and with fire brings one to the church triumphant eternal.

Both are baptism necessary for Salvation... But one is for a timely salvation as we walk with the Lord in this life in fellowship and obedience... The other is for eternal salvation by the Lord and him alone... Neither affect the other one or else John baptism would be a necessary mode for heaven... It is but the heaven in consideration is the visible church here!... Whereas the baptism administered by Christ by Holy Ghost and with fire saves all it is intended for and supersedes all valid water baptism!... That is why concerning water baptism Jesus Christ baptised none only his disciples!... IMHO!... Brother Glen [IMG] & [IMG] Sister Charlotte [IMG]

Thanks for the post brother Glen,

I believe the church was baptized with the Holy Spirit, but that believers are indwelt with the Spirit.

I am not sure if that is in line with what you are saying. I having encountered the idea of the church 'militant' much so don't really understand the term. I think I have read it in some of John Gill's writings, but am unsure of who or where I first heard it.

    God Bless.

Sorry I've heard militant all my life I thought all were familiar with the term... It means the church Jesus Christ set up in the world in time... I guess a better term would be visible!... Brother Glen [IMG] & [IMG] Sister Charlotte [IMG]

O.K. I understand now. Perhapas I am just too particular in my terms :D I veiw that assembly in heaven as the Family of God; consisting of all who are saved regardless of church association, yet I regard the Bride only to be made up of those who are by water baptism made members of particular churches preaching and teaching the true doctrine as once delivered to the saints. The reason I believe this is otherwise, there is no reason to insist on any body of doctrine as being true over another if all are made part of the bride through salvation.

Do you think I am too particular?

That is interesting Brother Dallas what is your light on the five wise and five foolish virgins waiting for the bridegroom?... Maybe you would like to start on post on that... I'm sure the Arminian brethren would have a field day... Notice the wise and foolish are both virgins... Ummmmmm?... Brother Glen [IMG]

RE: "5 wise & 5 foolish" - All had oil in their lamps (natural light); the wise had oil in their vessels (salvation); all of them slept. BUT THE BRIDE DOUTBLESS STAYED AWAKE! Saved folks who aren't properly baptized (friend in Glasgow KY note we agree) are "guests at the wedding," with baptism as our "engagement ring" (espoused as a chaste virgin). Paul was worried that the church folks at Corinth could lose something. Evidently it wasn't their salvation; could it have been their status in the bride, by disobedience even after baptism? (Compare the espousal period in marriage, before the actual wedding, when Joseph could have put Mary away privately or had her stoned for apparent fornication.) The operative passage is II Cor. 11:1-4.)
