The first points race for the Nextel Cup 2004 season will be the Daytona 500 this Sunday on NBC. The pre-race coverage starts at noon ET (11:00 am CT) but I think the race itself doesn't start until 1:30 p.m. ET (12:30 pm CT). Greg Biffle is on the pole and Elliott Sadler has looked good in qualifying and the 2nd Twin-125 race, but the DEI cars (Dale Earnhart, Jr. and Michael Waltrip) are both starting in the top 10. Will it be another victory for DEI or will someone else have a chance this year?

Here is a link to the starting lineup: NASCAR.COM Daytona 500 Starting Lineup

Did anyone create a group on the ESPN Stock Car Challenge this year? I made my picks for this week already and would be willing to create a group for people on the board if their is any interest and nobody else has created one. The picks for that Daytona 500 don't lock until 11:59 pm PT on Saturday night if you are interested in joining the game. I think a few people here joined last year if I remember correctly.

We have the "Fightin Fundies". Our third year. About 20 or so from the FFF and the BB.

after entering your own name and password, then choose our group. Password is Buffa.

You're all welcome, but cut off time is Saturday evening, so not much time.

Well, I don't have time to get involved on another site so I'll just say right here who to watch for tomorrow:

    Sterling Marlin.
    Waltrip/Earnhardt.
    Jeff Burton.
    Bobby Labonte?

I think it will also be interesting to see how John Andretti runs this year in the #1 car.

Don't worry, you'll probably have better luck this time around!
Four of my five picks were in the top 10 for a little, at one point had 2nd and 3rd place, then Biffle tapped the wall and it was all downhill from there.
I KNEW I should have picked them the way I did last year...by cuteness factor alone! LOL

One of my internet friends started a group so I had already joined it when Dr. Bob posted about the Fightin Fundies group. I think most of the people in my group are Kurt Busch fans, so my user name with a #24 in it really sticks out. :D

My picks for the Daytona 500 were:
    Dale Earnhardt, Jr. (1st)
    Scott Wimmer (3rd)
    Jeff Gordon (8th)
    Greg Biffle (12th)
    Michael Waltrip (38th)

All of them did pretty good except Michael Waltrip. I had planned on dumping him and Scott Wimmer before the next race, but I may have to hold onto Wimmer a few more weeks to see if he can repeat this week's success. The ESPN website doesn't have the scores up yet, so I am not sure how I did compared to the rest of my group. I think Kurt Busch stayed trapped a lap down, so that may help me make up for Waltrip's bad luck in the group standings.

I just read an article online that said Dale Earnhardt, Jr. just won the Busch race at Daytona in addition to his Daytona 500 win. The race had been delayed Saturday because of rain and they had to finish it this morning. What a weekend for Jr.! I wonder if this will be the year he wins it all. Of course the Daytona 500 was only the first race so we have a long ways to go.

Any want to share your driver choices? Or your screen/team name so I can know who to SHOOT at?

Mine bear my name and are just that, "Losers".

My Pickset name is just "RodH-#24" but I don't think I would copy my picks every week. This week was just a lucky guess. I had picked Kyle Petty and someone else (Mark Martin or Rusty Wallace) and changed it to Wimmer and Biffle on Friday. This week I finished at 92.7% but I don't remember ever getting above 80% for any week last year. I plan on dropping Michael Waltrip for Rockingham, but I am not sure who I want to add yet. I will probably keep the other 4 drivers.

    My picks were

    1. Biffle
    2. Sadler
    3. Johnson
    4. Waltrip
    5. Spencer

Had wanted to get Nemechek in but couldn't work it out right with the point system.
Johnson will always be on my list this season, as he was last year, but the rest will vary, with the exception that Spencer will probably be on there a lot, at least until he scores in the top five because I know he can do it.

Dr. Bob, my team is Forever HisTeam...my picks for the 500 were:

    1. Dale Jr.
    2. Michael Waltrip
    3. Sterling Marlin
    4. Dale Jarret
    5. Johnny Benson

I do have a question, can we make changes to our team every week? Or do we have to keep the same team?

My picks were pretty good for the 500, even if I AM near the bottom. Think I'll make the bottom if I try hard.

I just picked five guys that I recognized and didn't change them from race to race. NOT a "winning" strategy, methinks!

    Dale Earnhardt, Jr.
    Bobby Labonte
    Mark Martin
    Dale Jarrett
    Todd Bodine

I changed mine for the Subway, which should be starting about NOW! [IMG]
I've got Johnson, Gordon, Nemechek, Jarret, and Wimmer.
Can't figure out how that point system works. I usually have 99.8 because I was told to get it as close to 100 as possible, but I wanted these drivers so I'm at 98. How does that affect anything?

Points are figured on the value of the driver and the finish. So if you are at exactly 100 you total will be higher no matter WHERE they finish.

Some have values that total only 90 and they will lose 10% possible. BUT if they picked the right drivers, it may be worth it.

GRRRR This is so wrong! Both races I have my top driver out of the race!
Waltrip in the first game, now Jarett.
I quit! I'm jinxing the drivers!
