Dead Relative Comes to say Goodbye

My late grandmother wrote down this story while she
was still living. She had a sister who was terminally
ill with cancer, she was in the hospital and the
doctors had only given her a few days to live. My
grandmother was at home in bed for the night, when she
suddenly woke up in the middle of the night and the clock read 2am.
The room suddenly lit up as if a light was turned
on but she had not turned on the light. There was a
gust of wind in the room even though all the windows
were closed and she felt an invisible hand touch her
on her arm. Instantly she knew that her sister had
come to say goodbye! The room went dark again and the
gust of wind stopped. Early the next morning she got a
phone call, her sister had passed away during the
night at precisely 2am

Don't think so.

Well how about this one... I was visiting my wife who was terminally ill in a rest home and as I went in I saw her and sat on the end of the bed... She looked amazed and said you can't sit there very seriously!... Why not?... I said?... Because there is an angel sitting there, I jumped up and said pompously, well excuse me Mr. Angel and thought nothing of it, until the next day which was church... I will tell you this right now I don't fall for any dog and pony show.

During church our pastor, told me to go forward and open service and read a little what was on my mind... I told the church about the story of Mary going to the tomb of Jesus, at the resurrection... I had a vision of my wife as Mary going to the tomb and I finished the reading and sat down... After church I got a call that my wife had been rushed to the hospital... When I got there, she was breathing but not responsive and she looked like she was at peace and asleep... She passed away at 1:00 the next morning and went home to her Jesus... Just because you have not had that experience, don't think others have not... Brother Glen:)

Btw... I have heard in my over 50 years in the church, others tell of similar stories... The Holy Spirit is the comforter and knows how to comfort his children!

The difference between the two accounts is that one believes she was visited by a dead relative, and the other by an angel. I tend to discount stories about the ghosts of relatives, as there is no account of such in a set of Scriptures rife with accounts of spiritual visitors.

Some will cite the account of the witch at Endor, but that apparition, which was seen only by the witch, was not Samuel, it was a demon.

Moses and Elijah appeared with Jesus, but this is in His Transfiguration, a divine occurrence with no precedent and not to be repeated in all of history. And they were speaking to Christ, not the disciples.

It should be noted that when the trepidation Christ felt was most acute, it was an angel that ministered to Him in the Garden, not the ghost of His father, Joseph, or that of his dead cousin, John, a prophet greater than Moses or Elijah.

So where I am fully convinced that angels can, and do, visit the heirs of salvation, as angels are their ministers, I reject out of hand accounts of our dearly departed acting as agents of our comfort.

God loves us so much that He sends us what we need to comfort us. The events that I'm aware of brought peace and comfort. And I absolutely believe them.

There are many opinions as to “what is/is not from God”! One extreme says God created, wound up the spring, and left the universe to “do it’s thing” until it runs down! The other extreme says that God is choosing the brand of deodorant you use & how often!

My personal belief is that God is extremely interested in you as an individual, and He will interact with you to the extent of your faith.

IOW, IMHO, God will interact with you, as an individual, according to your expectation of His interaction. (You will note that I did say “INTERACTION”, NOT necessarily what you want or are asking for.)

How many times did Jesus say “according to your faith”; or saying He could not do much in the way of miracle in His hometown because of their unbelief? Just because we now have the written Word does not limit God in what He does now, to ONLY that which is written.

So I have no problem believing that some revelation of a loved one’s death is revealed at the moment of death (this IS NOT calling the dead back, as condemned in Scripture), or that a stray dog can bring emotional support at a needed time.

I would be very careful in limiting God to ONLY those situations that you can understand, and dismiss the rest simply because you think God will/would not “do that”!

If I have to err, I’d rather see God in a mundane event when He may not have instigated it, than to dismiss Him in some event that He did orchestrate!

Each person has to decide for HIMSELF where he stands on that broad spectrum noted in the opening paragraph.

God loves us so much that He sends us what we need to comfort us.
God so loves us that He gave His Son.

His Son and His righteousness and the things that are hallowed are what we need, and are the expressions of His love.
