Dear Pastor, If you were to die tonight

    Who in your church would win souls to Christ and disciple them?
    Who is discipled and knows how to do personal evangelism?
    Who is on fire enough to Do personal evangelism?
    Who is equipped to disciple others?
    Do you regularly hold classes in discipleship?
    Do you regularly hold classes in personal evangelism?
    I ask these questions because the question was asked of me this morning. I thought am I doing enough. Are people growing in Christ to the point that they are well discipled personal evangelists who not only have the knowledge but the will to witness and disciple others? If so where is the fruit? To many pew potatoes in the church. Maybe I'm not making my message clear enough? Maybe I'm not making clear that this is the ministry of every believer?

    Kind of relates more to the work of the Spirit and His stirrings, rather than ours. No matter how great you are as a preacher if the Spirit hasn't been there afore ya, ya ain't guna move em much.

    Great passage, but I was relating to your statment of too many pew potatoes not the ministry that men are involved in.

    By the way someone rightly observed that pews gain their name from the rotting flesh they contain :)

    Charles Haddon Spurgeon: "The minister who does not earnestly pray over his work must surely be a vain and conceited man. he acts as if he thought himself sufficient of himself and therefore need not appeal to God. Yet what a baseless pride to conceive that our preaching can ever be in itself so powerful that it can turn men from their sins and bring them to God without the working of the Holy Ghost."

    In the church the Lord allows me to pastor, the work would go on, for many help advance the kingdom of the Savior.

    Our church has many trained counselors and deacons who could take over in the event of the death of the Pastor until a new pastor could be called. The Work of our Lord would continue in our church. During our Youth Minister's recent illness, many people stepped up to take his place until he returned.

    Interesting Question.......
    I pastor a small but growing church in the Everglades region of Florida. This church was about one month from closing the doors when I was called, having been without a pastor for about 4 years.
    When I agreed to pastor the church, while we were talking about our vision.......(you won't believe this) I stated that if I were to drop dead in the pulpit, I wanted to make sure that someone would and could step over my prostrate body and finish the message.
    (God has honored our vision and truly set some men on fire for His work!)
