Deleting one's account

Could someone tell me how to go about deleting my account here on the Baptist Board? I've looked everywhere in my profile, and it seems that deleting one's own account is not an option. Or have I just missed it somewhere?

Thanks, Salty, I appreciate your comment. I'm not sure how much I really have to offer the Board, though--as I'm sure you noticed, I so rarely post here that I might as well be a 'guest,' or worse, the dreaded lurker.
I've spent the whole evening coming in and out of this thread, trying to figure out how to say why I think I want to delete my account (no, I'm still not sure). I feel like I have no right to complain about anything as I almost never post. It's kind of like voting--if you don't vote, you shouldn't complain! :laugh:
But...well, there's a reason I haven't posted much. I'm just not comfortable with some of the things I've been reading here. Sometimes the substance, but more often the tone, and the personal attacks. Things can get downright nasty sometimes, and I honestly don't understand why that attitude is tolerated here. Yes, we're to speak the truth to one another, but we're supposed to speak it in love, yet I see no evidence of that in some posts. Now, granted, a lot of those posts are in the debate forums, and I understand that things can get quite heated there, but as Christians I would think even our debates amongst ourselves should be tempered with kindness.
I don't know, maybe I should say this in those threads. Maybe I should speak up and say, 'hey, maybe a gentler tone would be more persuasive for your argument, and it would certainly help those of us who are trying to follow along to understand each side better.' But frankly it's quite intimidating for an utter newbie to barge into a thread where a few old-timers are tearing each other's throats out!
Some people might say, well, if you don't like what you're reading in those threads, then stay out of them. And that's a valid point. But I want to say that I've learned a lot from those threads--there are some serious Bible scholars here! :thumbsup: I enjoy a good debate between knowledgeable people, I'd really miss them if I just stayed away from those sections. It's just that things far too often degenerate into nastiness so quickly!
Anyway, after some of the latest reading I've been doing here the past few days, I just started to feel kind of upset about some of the things I was encountering, and I thought, maybe it's time for me to delete my account and just move on. But I couldn't find that option anywhere in my profile, which I thought was odd as I'm a member of a couple of other boards now (not religious ones, just general discussion forums), and they have the option right there in the profiles for their members to leave if they choose. So I'm guessing if I do decide I want to delete, I'll have to contact an administrator?

I've been a member here a long time and have felt some of what you are feeling. I have jumped into threads to remind the posters that the world can read what we write here. I've tried to add humor to diffuse. Sometimes it was taken well and others it wasn't. At one point, I wanted to leave and did - but did nothing about the account.
I'm not as active anymore, but I still read (but not as much) and still learn some things. It's not as eye-opening an experience anymore about how different Baptists are or how polar their views can be or how aggressive or humble some appear in writing. I've made some good friends here which is why I can't leave completely. And I'm not talking internet acquaintances, but friends I know I can call on and have. Friends I talk to offline. Friends I pray over and I know pray over me. That's worth sticking around for IMHO.

Loveday, I agree with much of your complaints but I would hope you stay to help balance the tone. I too was disappointed to find out this site was not very edifying, but rather just interesting. My expectations changed, but I still get something out of it, and have learned some things. I would suggest that instead of leaving completely, just take breaks as needed. I have on a few occasions because of some of the same things you feel, just left for a good while, rather than get caught up in it. Then came back when I felt like doing so.

I joined the site and then mostly read for nearly a year. I have seen so many posts that were disappointing. It was not until recently that I decided to put my convictions out there on certain topics regardless on whether those opposed to my convictions showed hatred toward me or not.
Most of the posts I have read over the years have revealed much liberalism. Some posts have been a blessing. I won't let anyone else's beliefs sway my convictions of what the Word of God teaches.
At the same time, I read opposing posts because it helps me to search the Scriptures more.

There is more extreme, venomous conservatism here than harsh liberalism here, but, either way, you're right. People here are far too often angry and petty, instead of pushing for reconciliation and unity in essentials.
Either way, balancing those viewpoints is quite helpful.

For everyone: Thank you so much for your replies, advice, concern, etc. :1_grouphug: I would have posted again here sooner, but connection issues and Real Life have kept me from logging in. I have at least been able to pop in a couple of times to keep caught up with favourite threads and to read all your posts in this one, though. Just wanted to let you all know that for now, I think I'll stick around. :flower: I still may not post too much, but I'll try to get better at that. After much thought and prayer, I realise now that I shouldn't let what I don't like keep me from what I do like, without at least making an effort to participate and understand a little better first.
I have to add that I'll be out of town all next week, starting tomorrow, so if you don't see me logged in, it's not because my connection's gone all wonky or I'm just staying away or anything.
