Delta, Bank of America drop sponsorship of Shakespeare in the Park over ‘Julius Caesar’ stunt

Delta Airlines and Bank of America pulled out of their sponsorship of New York’s Public Theater on Sunday over a production of “Julius Caesar” that reimagines the main character as President Trump.

Shortly after Delta, who was a four-year sponsor, made its announcement, Bank of America yanked its support as well.

The Shakespeare in the Park play tells the story of the leader assassinated by Roman senators over the fear that he’s becoming too tyrannical, but rather than the original setting, the production stages Caesar (Gregg Henry) and his wife, Calpurnia, (Tina Benko) with Donald and Melania Trump lookalikes.

What the New Yorkers are doing is not Shakespeare but violent left-wing politics. The only question to the corporate sponsors of this leftist stuff is what took you so long to withdraw your support?

You just know if this had happened when Obama was President there would have been an uproar from the left!

Umm...no.

While Delta Air Lines and Bank of America have dropped their sponsorships of New York’s Public Theater over a President Trump-inspired staging of Shakespeare’s “Julius Caesar,” corporate sponsors at the Guthrie Theater had no public reaction to a 2012 staging that featured a black actor in the role of Caesar.

That production, part of a national tour done in collaboration with the Acting Company of New York, starred Bjorn DuPaty, a tall basketball aficionado who resembles then-President Barack Obama (pictured above).

Caesar is stabbed to death in the middle of the play.

The New York production, staged by Twin Cities-born director Oskar Eustis, was questioned in a tweet by the president's son, Donald J. Trump, Jr.

.
Because the marxist media suppressed it.

I did not hear about it but I would object to that also. Notice how the extremes of left and right close the circle and hold hands on this sort of thing.

Great art does not soapbox.

Political extremists cannot produce great art. American art is too infused with politics to be considered great art.

Sure. The media would bury a story about their hero Obama being knifed by proxy. Uh-huh.

Right, they did.

Probably didn't want to give any loonie tunes any ideas.

Some group needs to do The Merchant of Venice with a Bernie Sanders lookalike as Shylock.

The only thing the Trump version of the play has in common with the (not) Obama version is that they are both based on Julius Caesar. The Trump one features a guy wearing a toupee, a suit, a Melania look-alike and there's an American flag displayed at the end of the play. The other version had a guy that had a passing resemblance to Obama and held the title role in a traditional adaptation. To have protested the latter, all the objection could have been having a black actor play a "white role". But it's clear in the Trump one that they mean Trump = Caesar, and it's just so vicarious to see Caesar get stabbed.

Glad the BoA and Delta pulled out, nobody should get away with butchering a play for political reasons and thrills.

What about Brutus and Cassius and the other assassins? Are they still pursued and killed, and Brutus ends up making the decisions-- all wrong? Does "Trump"'s ghost make a visit? Does "Melania" commit suicide by 'swallowing fire' [coals]? Is that part shown? [it ain't in the original].
