Investigative reporter Jason Mattera ambush-interviewed Illinois Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky and was somehow able to get a straight answer to a simple question: Are you willing to ban handguns?
“We want everything on the table. This is a moment of opportunity…” Schakowsky said matter-of-factly, but was just getting warmed up. Mattera pointed out that the majority of firearms-related murders are done with handguns, and then asked why a handgun ban wasn’t up for consideration.
“(Incoherent due to loud music)… Background checks. We’re not going to be able to win that (restricting handguns). Not now ,” Schakowsky said, before adding, “Background checks I think are going to… address any kind of weapon.”
The Democratic representative continued telling the Human Events editor just what she and her Democrat colleagues had in mind.
“We’re going to push as hard as we can as far as we can.”
Mattera asked, “So, the Assault Weapons Ban is just the beginning?”
“Oh, absolutely,” Congresswoman Schakowsky gushed. “I’m against handguns…. so, absolutely.”
