Democrats Claiming Victory in 2018 Omnibus Fight | Breitbart

Democrats are trying to restrain their gloating over their many wins in the 2018 omnibus battle, including new language to limit border wall construction to just 33 extra miles.

“We’re feeling very good about this,” said the Democrats’ Senate leader, Sen. Chuck Schumer, who has stepped up his opposition to a border wall since President Donald Trump was elected in 2016. “We’ve accomplished many, many, many of our goals.” He added:

When it’s unveiled, you will see. We’re not going to get into any more details.

Those gains include roughly half a billion dollars for the huge “Gateway” tunnel in Schumer’s New York — and language shrinking Trump’s wall construction on the border to just 33 miles of fences and riverside levees in 2018. At that rate of construction, it will take 22 years to complete Trump’s border-wall plan.

The Democrats’ grins echo their triumph in the December 2015 budget fight when Democratic leaders hid their gains from rank-and-file Democratic legislators to preempt celebrations before the deal was sealed. After the 2015 deal was sealed, Schumer boasted: “Almost anything the Republican leadership in the Senate achieved this year, they achieved on Democratic terms… Democrats had an amazingly good year.”

Chuck Schumer Declares Victory on Omnibus: 'We're Able to Accomplish More in the Minority'

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) declared victory on the omnibus spending bill Thursday, saying, “We’re able to accomplish more in the minority.”

Schumer said, “It’s a funny thing. In a certain sense, we’re able to accomplish more in the minority than we were when we had the presidency or even were in the majority.”

As Breitbart News reported, the omnibus spending bill contains language that explicitly bars funding for a southern border wall.

Yep. Trump did not lead on this budget. He seems disinterested in the legislative process. He should have been pounding the war drums for weeks saying he would veto a bill that didn't fund the wall. Instead he took the lazy way out and played "go along to get along."

The new drum being thumped is the military tom-tom saying that he (POTUS) signed it because it contains the biggest military budget amount in our entire history.

Something our enemies do not like for sure.

I'm sure it gave misters Un and Putin heartburn and night sweats.

Increasing spending on the military is the go-to argument by Republicans that's always used to justify deficit spending. I agree the military needed a bump in spending but the amount seems excessive--$800B, and there is plenty, plenty of pork in the rest of the bill.

The fact is the Republicans only act like budget hawks when they are the minority party. When they are in the majority they spend like lottery winners. George W. Bush and the R's in power gave us the Medicare drug benefit, a whole new expensive entitlement.

This bill provided border security for foreign nations, for goodness sakes! Planned Parenthood, fully funded! PBS, fully funded. National Endowment for the Arts, increased funding!

Yes, the Republicrats did it again!

And now I think I see what is really going on.

IMHO the budget should be voted on one dept at a time
1) Defense
2) State
3) Justice
4) Treasury
5) Veterans Affairs
6) Homeland Security
7) Interior
8) Agriculture
9) Transportation
10) Energy
11) Commerce
12) Labor
13) Health and Human Svc
14) Housing and Urban
15) Education
16) Other Federal agcys, ect
17) White House
18) Congress

Congress would not be permitted to vote on a lower number dept until the higher number budget
has been sent to the President.

The "Omnibus" is Ryan's deal. He wants to avoid the individual fights over different parts of the budget.
The reason is painfully apparent. He can sneak plums iinto it to appease democrats without it being found out until it's too late.

Paul Ryan is Trump's worst enemy. I think Trump knows it, but is afraid to take on the Speaker.

Uniparty doesn’t like murica, & they don’t like the guy we voted in. Trump is having to battle on every front, including his family. He signed it JUST for the military, no question. And he’s right, once again, as much as we, & he, don’t like it. He has a lot of Reagan in him, too bad he doesn’t have quite the moral fortitude, or self effacing manner, but he is the best we’ve had in a long time. That I know.
