He was not the typical politician saying what he thought people wanted to hear. He told it like he saw it, and to heck with the political consequences.

This is not a democratic victory, the people of MN put him in office. He is their representative. The good thing is the man they chose can get to work doing the things they voted for him to do.
Coleman was the incumbent, if he was worth having or had done a good job the contest would not have been close.
I blame the problem on not having a better alternative running against him. Coleman had 6 years to show the people of MN he was the man to represent them and the contest came to this.
The GOP should have recognized this via polls and put someone else on the ticket.

Wrong on both counts. This guy is an insult to the filthy mouthed late night comedians. He is as qualified to be senator as "zero" is to be president
The crooked Secretary of State put him in office with the consent of the State Supreme Court. However, he will be such an embarrassment to the democrats they will regret it, that is assuming there is such a thing as an embarrassed democrat.

I know it might cause you to blow a gasket, but the people of Minnesota elected Franken to be their Senator. I don't see how Franken's "foul mouth" should bother the right-wingers here. After all, remember what Cheney said to Senator Leahy?
I love how people will justify anything, by citing another sin by another person.
Besides...Franken's perversion went beyond simple profanity (not that profanity is the least bit commendable).
This guy wrote letters to a porno mag, fantasizing about some really nasty stuff.
Furthermore...some of his blasphemous quotes he has made are sickening.
Now...this is where you find a Republican who has done the same thing, and you post it...ostensibly, so you will feel better about Franken.
Putting your silly "blow a gasket" comment aside...if it does not disturb you that our country elects someone as morally vapid as Franken....well, I just don't know what to say about that. Look...the court has spoken. The man's going to the senate. But when a state knowingly elects such a spiritually and ethically bankrupt individual....well, volumes have been spoken: either their is a moral deficiency, an intellectual one, or both.

Now...if there's no law against him running, and the votes were counted & certified, then...oh well...guess Mr. Franken Goes to Washington.
But it does speak ill of MN voters.
The more I see this statement, the more it sticks in my craw. There are many of us who have been critical of leaders all across the political spetctrum. The key point is defining "right-wingers." Much of the time, that refers here to anyone who votes for fewer D's than R's...or one who is highly critical of the Obama administration (the reasons are irrelevant for some: the accusations still get made).
Also...if by "right-wing" you mean someone who is for individual liberties, and wishes the government would butt out, then I'm a proud member of the crew. I am consistently conservative...NOT Republican.
This, then, is when it gets pretty much offensive: Let's assume "we" were critical of a Dem for sexual crimes against minors. Would you accuse "us" of not really being offended...that a pedophile Republican would be acceptable to "us?"
I guess that's my problem: It's your contention that sin is only offensive to "us" if it's the 'other' party. Sorry...but the number that you're describing on the BB is very, very small...if it exists.

Yes, but Senator Franken doesn't represent only democrats, he also represents the republicans in Minnesota.
I believe he may turn out to be a better Senator than many here might think. Besides, this is the business of Minnesota and has nothing to do with where I live.
You've hit the central theme for me:
Gerrymandered districts ensure (especially...calling it like it is...in heavily minority districts that never, ever vote anything but Democrat...no matter what they do) that there will never be a "throw 'em all out" election.
Who gets thrown out? The few "swing districts" incumbents that remain. There aren't many.

You should go into politics. That high sounding rhetoric does not hide the fact that the election was stolen. There is a Marxist move to take over the United States by moneyed people like George Soros. They got a democrat elected Sec. of State in 2006 and he gave the election to Gutter Mouth.
As opposed to what, Senators or Governors who cheat on their wives??? I don't think either party has room to call the other filthy.
When Bush won office it was fair but now it's crooked people doing crooked things. Get a grip OR. In 6 years MN can pick someone else you don't like.
I think it was learned from another great man who said, "he who is without sin cast the first stone".
Correction, around here it means anyone who didn't commit the sin of voting D. I wish those of us who vote both D and R were given equal status but you know that isn't the case.
I think it's the attitude of being the party of family values yet having people lacking morals the party touts in its ranks. It somehow says that not one D believes or has moral values. Kind of an arrogant approach to your fellowman wouldn't you say? Doesn't it remind you of the Pharisees?
It is the most ridiculous thing I ever heard of to be the party of family values because neither party is pure as the driven snow. It would be less hypocritical to say you only voted for candidates, D or R, who display family values. After all, affiliating with a party has never made any one moral.
It was the people of MN who elected him and he is in the Senate of the US of America. Not the democratic Senate though it does seem that way with the party of no sticking together like they do.
