Demonstrations and Riots - Exceptions or the Norm?

    A lot of folks seem to be obsessing about the Occupy demonstration. While listening to a history podcast it seems to me that non-peaceable assembly, demonstrations, and riots might be the norm rather that the exception to the rule.

    I thought it might be interesting for history buffs to list some of the more (in)famous demonstrations and riots in US history. If you do do, please provide a credible link for our mutual education.

    To my recollection, the current demostrations and riots are the only ones that a president helped instigate, support and then excused the behavior of the rioters.

    Am I permitted to observe that in US 20th century riots, only one group burns down its own neighborhoods?
